Lucas 2435 - 48
35 Cuando los dos discípulos regresaron de Emaús
y llegaron al sitio donde estaban reunidos
los apóstoles, les contaron lo que les había
pasado en el camino y como habían reconocido a
Jesús al partir el pan.
36 Mientras hablaban de esas cosas, se presento
Jesús en medio de ellos y les dijo La paz
este con ustedes.
37 Ellos, desconcertados y llenos de temor,
creían ver un fantasma.

38 Pero él les dijo No teman soy yo.
Por que se espantan? Por que surgen dudas en
su interior?
39 Miren mis manos y mis pies. Soy yo en
persona. Tóquenme y convénzanse un fantasma
no tiene ni carne ni huesos, como ven que tengo
yo.
40 Y les mostró las manos y los pies.
41 Pero como ellos no acababan de creer de pura
alegría y seguían atónitos, les dijo
Tienen aquí algo de comer?
42 Le ofrecieron un trozo de pescado asado

43 él lo tomo y se puso a comer delante de
ellos.
44 Después les dijo Lo que ha sucedido es
aquello de que les hablaba yo, cuando aun
estaba con ustedes que tenia que cumplirse
todo lo que estaba escrito de mí en La ley de
Moisés, en los profetas y en los salmos.
45 Entonces les abrió el entendimiento para que
comprendieran las Escrituras
46 y les dijo Está escrito que el Mesías
tenia que padecer y había de resucitar de entre
los muertos al tercer día,

47 y que en su nombre se había de predicar a
todas las naciones, comenzando por Jerusalén,
la necesidad de volverse a Dios para el perdón de
los pecados.
48 Ustedes son testigos de esto.

Luke 2435 - 48
35 The two disciples recounted what had taken
place on the way to Emmaus and how Jesus was
made known to them in the breaking of the bread.
36 While they were still speaking about this,
Jesus stood in their midst and said to them,
Peace be with you.
37 But they were startled and terrified and
thought that they were seeing a ghost.

38 Then he said to them, Why are you
troubled? And why do questions arise in your
hearts?
39 Look at my hands and my feet, that it is
I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost
does not have flesh and bones as you can see I
have.
40 And as he said this, he showed them his
hands and his feet.
41 While they were still incredulous for joy
and were amazed, he asked them, Have you
anything here to eat?
42 They gave him a piece of baked fish

43 he took it and ate it in front of them.
44 He said to them, These are my words that I
spoke to you while I was still with you, that
everything written about me in the Law of Moses
and in the prophets and psalms must be
fulfilled.
45 Then he opened their minds to understand the
scriptures.
46 And he said to them, Thus it is written
that the Messiah would suffer and rise from the
dead on the third day

47 and that repentance, for the forgiveness of
sins, would be preached in his name to all the
nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
48 You are witnesses of these things.

Todays Gospel, the Good News of Jesus Christ,
tells us that from now on the risen Christ was to
be recognized in the breaking of the bread.
This was referring to the Eucharist, instituted
by Christ at the Last Supper. Jesus, the living
bread come down from heaven, was to be with us
forever at Mass in a special way, and in the
Holy Spirit all the time. No one can take him
away from us! Glory to God! Alleluia!

El evangelio de hoy, las Buenas Nuevas de
Nuestro Señor Jesucristo, nos dice que de hoy
en adelante, Cristo se ha de reconocer al
quebrar el pan. Esto se refiere a la
Eucaristía, la Misa. Fue instituida por Cristo
en la Ultima Cena. Jesús, el pan vivo bajado
del cielo, estará para siempre presente en la
Misa de una manera especial, y en el Espirito
Santo todo el tiempo. Nadie nos lo puede
quitar! Gloria a Dios! Aleluya!

Also, it is in speaking to one another about
Jesus that the Holy Spirit is said to break
bread. He opens up the minds of the Apostles
and earliest Christians to understand the
scriptures, and to understand Jesus. St.
Jerome said the ignorance of the scriptures is
ignorance of Christ. That is why it so good to
have bible study classes.

También hay que notar que es en el hablar de
Jesús que el Espirito Santo también se puede
decir que quiebra el pan de la sagrada
escritura. Abre la mente de los Apóstoles y
los primeros Cristianos para poder comprender las
escrituras, y poder comprender a Jesús. San
Jerónimo dice que ignorancia de las escrituras
es ignorancia de Cristo. Por eso es bueno
tener estudios bíblicos.

What the Apostles spoke about has been recorded
in the New Testament, so that we are an
apostolic church. This is important because
only they knew the mind of Christ, having lived
with him for three years of his public life. St
Paul comes later and says Put on the mind of
Christ (Philippians 25).

Lo que los Apóstoles dijeron es lo que leemos en
el Nuevo Testamento. Por eso se dice que somos
una iglesia apostólica. Es importante
porque solo ellos conocieron la mente de Cristo
de una manera intima, siendo que vivieron con
Él por tres años de su vida publica. San Pablo

Cristo (Filipenses 25).

That is a key to open the doors of our minds to
understanding Jesus. To speak about Jesus with
love and faith is a trigger that brings so much
joy! It sets off the multiplication of
beautiful ideas, and thoughts, and memories.
Mysteriously, from being dead, we can be alive.

Esta es la llave para abrir la puerta de nuestro
entendimiento de Cristo Jesús. Hablar de Jesús
con amor y fe es el gatillo que trae tanto
gozo! Se multiplican tantas bellas reflexiones,
pensamientos, y memorias. Misteriosamente,
se dice que sin Él, estamos muertos, pero
con Él vivimos!

By virtue of the resurrection, Jesus is
accessible to us. He transcends time and
space. That is the power of the resurrection
(Philippians 310). This is what St. Paul
sought. He longed for us to share the same Jesus
Christ that he had met when his mind was opened.

Por virtud de la resurrección tenemos acceso a
Jesús. Él trasciende el tiempo y el espacio.
Este es el poder de la resurrección que
buscaba San Pablo (Filipenses 310). Él quería
compartir el mismo Cristo que Él había conocido

Peace be with you! Jesus said. And he
showed them the marks on his hands and feet
and side. It is so important that I never
forget the price Jesus paid for our salvation.
We begin every Mass with this words of Jesus.
And we wish every believing Christian the same
peace and love right before Communion, right
after the Our Father.

La Paz este con ustedes! Dice Jesús. Y les
mostró sus llagas en sus manos y en sus pies.
Es importante que nunca se me olvide el precio
que Jesús pago por nuestra salvación. Por eso
es que cada Misa se comienza con estas palabras
de Jesús. Y le deseamos a todo Cristiano
creyente la misma paz y el amor inmediatamente
antes de comulgar, después del Padre Nuestro.

Peace in Hebrew is shalom. It means
tranquility of order, integrity, wholeness,
togetherness, healing. All of these Jesus
brings when we commune with Him. And Jesus
reassures the Apostles Why are you troubled?
Why do questions arise in your hearts? He
says the same to us so many times. Anytime we
go through troubled times, or anxiety, it is
good to remember the words of Jesus. Peace!

Paz en hebreo es "shalom". Significa
tranquilidad de orden, integridad, unidad,
curación. Todo esto Jesús nos trae cuando
estamos unidos a Él. Jesús asegura a los
Apóstoles diciendo Por qué se turban? Por
qué tienen en sus corazones esos pensamientos?
Así nos dice a todos, muchas veces. Cualquier
vez que estamos pasando tiempos molestos, o
ansiosos, allí esta Él. Y nos dice lo mismo
Paz!

Jesus wants us to focus on his hands and heart
and feet, and less on ourselves. By his
stripes we are healed (Isaiah 535). Touch
Me, he says. What a tremendous gift to be
aware of the love of the Lord and never forget
how much he has done for me. How beautiful it
is to feel his love, with reverence. How
marvelous it is to feel the power of his
resurrection!

Jesús quiere que nos enfoquemos en sus manos y
en sus pies, y menos en nosotros. Por sus
llagas, somos sanados! (Isaías 535).
Toquenme y vean! dice el Señor. Que
tremendo don eso de conocer el amor del Señor y
jamás olvidar cuanto ha hecho por mí! Que
bonito sentir su amor, con reverencia. Que
maravilla sentir el poder de Cristo resucitado.

They recognize Jesus at the breaking of the
bread. (Luke 2430). This term is also cited
in Acts 242 Acts 207 1 Corinthians 1016,
and Luke 916.

It seems that the disciples on the Road to Emmaus
were disappointed. They seem to be convinced
that miracles like rising from the dead couldnt
happen. They were expecting a nationalistic
messiah. Jesus dispels their disillusionment by
citing the scriptures. No particular texts are
cited. Let me offer a few that I have found.
Here they are.

estaban desanimados, y convencidos que milagros
como levantarse de la muerte no pueden ocurrir.
Estaban esperando a un Mesías nacionalista.
Jesús remueve su desilusión citando las

Zechariah 137 says Strike the shepherd,
that the sheep may be scattered I will turn my
hand against the little ones. (That is what
Satan did at the Passion of Jesus).

Isaiah 5312 says because he poured out
his soul to death, and was numbered with the
transgressors yet he bore the sins of many,
and made intercession for the transgressors.

look on him whom they have thrust through, they

In conclusion we can see that this is a very
rich passage. I have added the texts from the
scriptures about the Messiah that were fulfilled
in Jesus. I hope this helps you appreciate
better the story fo the two disciples who saw
Jesus on the road the Emmaus. Jesus Christ the

riquísimo. He añadido los pasajes de la
escritura acerca del Mesías que se cumplieron en
Jesucristo. Espero que así estimen mejor la
historia de los dos discípulos que vieron a Jesús
en el camino de Emaus. Jesús el Señor ha
resucitado. Aleluya!
