Anatomy and Physiology
  • Online Edition
  • J. Saunders and The Liberty High School Science
    Department

2
Skeletal System
  • Objectives
  • The student will be able to describe and
understand the concepts of the skeletal system.
The students will also list the various types of
bones and be able to label and locate the bones
    in the human body.

Skeletal System
  • Bone Composition
  • The bone is the hardest connective tissue in the
human body. It consist of cells, collagen fibers,
and dense mineralized ground substance . Various
types of cells exist in bone, and various
    minerals contribute to hardness.

Skeletal System
  • There are two parts of the human skeleton
  • Part I Axial Skeleton
  • The axial skeleton (80-bones) forms the central
axis of the body. It consist of the skull, the
vertebral column, the ribs and the sternum or
    breastbone.

  • There are two parts of the human skeleton
  • Part II Appendicular Skeleton
  • The appendicular skeleton (126-bones, 64 in the
shoulders and 62 in the pelvis and lower limbs)
forms the appendages such as the arms and feet of
    the body.
