  • Rail
  • Good basic network, used more and more, but
    overcrowded on key lines and in need of better
    stations

  • Hugely popular, but overcrowded and with scope
    for further expansion

  • Improving in quality, but could be more
    coordinated and reliable to attract modern
    commuters
  • Integration
  • Needs to improve across all 3 modes

    transport investment to future prosperity
  • During early 2009, work was undertaken to
    identify
  • Priority list of investment schemes to deliver
    economic, environmental and social objectives
  • Potential scope for utilisation of local/regional
    funding to support a city region-led investment
    programme

Envelope
  • Fund comprises a range of existing funding
    elements (present to 2018/19), which are to be
    pooled for investment
  • Regional Funding Allocation (448m)
  • Local Transport Plan contribution (147m)
  • Increased local authority levy for GMITA (for
    fund borrowing of 649m over 30 years)
  • Other contributions (291m)
  • Total fund size 1.535m

  • Four key elements of the package will be
    fast-tracked for delivery by 2013/14
  • Metrolink extension from Chorlton to East
    Didsbury
  • Metrolink extension from Droylsden to Ashton
  • Cross City bus system
