THE VISION
  • A Low Carbon and Well Adapted Northwest by 2020.
  • Launched in October 2006 by the Northwest
    Climate Change Partnership - Cross public and
    private sector partnership with sub-regional
    representation.
  • NW Climate Change Unit established in late 2007
    to deliver the Vision.

NORTHWEST CLIMATE FUND
  • 1.6M Investment Approved
  • Carbon compensation fund for NW organisations and
    individuals unlock investment in low carbon
    technologies and practices.
  • Aims to fund cost effective carbon reduction
    activities sequestration, energy efficiency,
    renewables, etc.
  • Sustainable fund, but will require pump-priming.
  • Currently at ITT stage of OJEU Procurement.

DEMONSTRATION FUNDS
  • Feasibility Study completed recommended 3
    strand approach
  • Strand 1 Demonstrators of low-carbon
    technologies and processes delivered through
    GRAND. ERDF Approved
  • Strand 2 Installation of low-carbon
    technologies and processes in SMEs delivered
    through SFI (or specific Product) . ERDF Approved
  • Strand 3 Low Carbon Economy Fund. Non ERDF
    eligible activity and/or match-funding for SRP
    led ERDF applications increasing access to
    existing funding opportunities. Awaiting
    Investment Decision.
  • Also links to High Energy Users Project provide
    extended loans and other support to large
    businesses.

  • 1.1M Investment Decision, covers 3 key areas of
    work
  • Assessing low-carbon skills requirements
    including our Sustainable Buildings Policy
  • Improved support to embed Climate Change into
    education teacher training, school action
    plans, curriculum directory.
  • Supporting leadership in public/private sectors
    links to the NW CLASP support programme for LSPs
    in delivering Climate Change NIs.

NW CLASP
  • To provide support for all North West Local
    Authorities, on the delivery of the Climate
    Change National Indicators through
  • Building a support network including a web-portal
  • Improve awareness and understanding of climate
    change (causes, effects, adaptation and
    mitigation measures) by LSP members
  • NW Climate Change Pathway - Measure share
    progress via stepped approach and case studies
  • Provide a series of targeted master-classes,
    seminars workshops on CO2 emission reduction,
    monitoring, reporting and adaptation.
  • Advice Support Service - Provide consultancy
    advice and support around NI 185, NI 186 (188)
  • Channel advice and information into and from the
    North West
