Kinds of Sentences
  • Declarative, Makes a statement
  • Interrogative, Asks a question
  • Exclamatory, expresses strong feeling
  • Imperative, gives a command or makes a request

Declarative
  • I am going to go fishing next week.

  • Are you going to go fishing with me?

  • I cant wait to take the final exam!

  • Sit down, be quiet, and take your notes.

Sentences and Fragments
  • Subject Part of a sentence names whom or what the
    sentence is about.
  • Predicate part of the sentence tells what the
    subject does or has. It can also describe what
    the subject is or is like
  • Sentence Fragment does not express a complete
    thought.

  • The Complete Subject includes all the words in
    the subject of a sentence.
  • The Complete Predicate includes all of the words
    in the predicate of a sentence.
  • The Simple Subject in the main of the most
    important word or group of words in the complete
    subject.

  • A Compound Subject is two or more simple subjects
    that have the same predicate.
  • A Compound Predicate is two or more simple
    predicates, or verbs, that have the same subject.

  • A Simple Sentence has one subject and one
    predicate.
  • A Compound Sentence is a sentence that contains
    two or more simple sentences joined by a comma
    and a coordinating conjunction or by a semicolon.

    is.
  • A Predicate adjective is an adjective that
    follows a linking verb. It describes the subject
    by telling what it is like.
