Focus Question

• Name 4 activities a leaf cell on a plant has to

• Content Students will be able to represent the
  function of organelles with a magazine picture.
• Language Students will be able to explain the
  reason for selecting a picture to represent the
  function of the organelle.

What is an analogy?

• An analogy is a representation or comparison of
  another object.
• Example the little girl was as cute as a bug
• Some bugs are cute, therefore, the little girl
  is cute.
• Create your own analogy of the weather on your
  paper.

Sentence Frames

• Use these sentences when presenting your
  organelle analogy. There are 3 to choose from.
• I chose _object_ to represent _organelle_
  because it does _function_.
• The analogy I chose for the function of the
  _organelle_ is _object_ because its function is
  to _function_.
• Based on the evidence that the function of
  _organelle_ is to _function_, the analogy I chose
  is _object_ because it does _function_.

Practice the Language-with Organs

• Select an organ from the human body.
• Think of an object that has the same function as
  the organ.
• Plug this into one of the sentence frames.
• Share with your table partner.

Creating Organelle Analogy

• At home, find objects that represent the function
  of the organelle.
• Bring to class on Wednesday.
• Write out sentences, or create your own to use as
  cue cards
• Present objects to class using sentence frames.

Grading

• You may choose a plant cell, or an animal cell.
• You will be given points for the organelle
  analogy.
• You will also be given points for the
  presentation.
• Turn in your sentences after you present. You
  can use them as a cue card!
