• Oasis is a network project under the Socrates
  program Grundtvig 4.
• Grundtvig networks are focused on ADULT LEARNING
• Aims
• To strengthen link between actors involved in
  adult education
• Improve quality, European dimension and
  visibility of activities/issues of common
  interest
• Make lifelong learning opportunities more widely
  known and available to citizens

• Each network addresses one particular thematic
  area
• Within its specific area, the OASIS network is
  pursuing the following objectives
• Promote European cooperation
• Identify present, emergent and future needs
• Help improve training of persons involved in
  teaching of adults
• Help to disseminate good practices
  (international and national level)

• Provide forum or common platform for discussion,
  exchange of information on key issues, policy
  shaping and research
• Assist in the networking of Grundtvig projects on
  subjects of common interest to promote European
  cooperation innovation and dissemination of

The Context
Why yet another project on Gender
Mainstreaming? The gender gap is still
large. Throughout the Union, 'poverty' is
slightly more prevalent among women than among
men. One in three females in employment is
working part-time Relatively more women than men
are unemployed (from 20 to 92)

And, connected to education
Even if

• rising female education levels
• decreasing male labour participation
• increasing female labour participation...
• ...more significant for the younger generations
• ... important differences exist across EU Member
  States

• lower female participation rates for the same
• education level
• larger female unemployment
• Gender differences persist in the distribution of
  income

The Goals
Oasis is a project network whose main aim is to
promote the adoption of the principle of Gender
Mainstreaming in training strategies which are
targeted at adults. Mainstreaming a gender
perspective is the process of assessing the
implications for women and men of any planned
action, including legislation, policies or
programmes, in any area and at all levels.

International Labour Organisation)   Together we
hope to contribute to eliminating the barriers
that impede womens equal access to economic and
social life

The Goals
It is our view that this assessment, and
consequent awareness, in the context of education
and training will promote gender equality and be
to the benefit of women and men in our society.
Within this concept of Gender Mainstreaming we
also wish to consider the implications for women
and men vis-à-vis their individual situations
with regards to race, disability and social
status, thus broadening the perspective and scope
of our project. Together we hope to contribute
to eliminating the barriers that impede womens
equal access to economic and social life

effectiveness in education policies by
systematically including actions that meet the
