Fort Sumter

• On April 12, 1861, Confederates demanded the
  Union surrender Fort Sumter.
• The Union was not able to fight.
• The Confederates opened fire on Fort Sumter and
  the Union surrendered.

• Began Sunday, June 21st ,1861
• Confederates were outnumbered, But advanced
  anyway.
• Union was caught off guard and retreated.
• Union lost 460 men
• Confederates lost 387.

Battle at antietam creek

• September 17,1862
• The Confederates planned to invade Maryland and
  Pennsylvania.
• The Union was aware of the the plan and moved to
  attack.
• The Confederates fell back and the Union won.
• There were 23,000 even dead and wounded on both
  sides.

The Siege of Vicksburg

• January July 1863
• Confederates built a barricade to keep away Union
  forces.
• When Union troops advanced, Confederates began to
  fight back.
• They failed and drew back.
• The Confederates failed and surrendered.

Battle of Gettysburg day 1

• July 1st, 1863
• Confederate troops moved in on Gettysburg,
  Pennsylvania.
• The Union began to retreat towards Gettysburg.
• Union fought in a defensive line until
  reinforcements could arrive.

• July 2nd 1863
• Union reinforcements arrived
• Battle lasted 1 ½ hours
• The Union defeated the confederates that day at
  devils pen.

• July 3, 1863
• Union have control over battle and Confederate
  troops decrease.
• Confederates retreated, 4,000 of them captured
• 50,000 men died in the Gettysburg battle.

  Confederate General Robert E. Lee requesting to
  speak to General Ulysses S. Grant about the
  surrender of his army.
