What is CASAS?

• Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems
• is the most widely used system for assessing
  adult basic reading, math, listening, writing,
  and speaking skills within a functional context.
• is the only adult assessment approved and
  validated by the U.S. Department of Education and
  the U.S. Department of Labor to assess both
  native and non-native speakers of English.

Is CASAS the best choice for my program?

• Do you hold Multi-level classes?
• Is your program ready to make a switch from
  topics of interest to a more concrete curriculum?
• Is your program ready to set a standard
  curriculum?
• Will you be able to train your teachers using the
  competencies?

Contacting CASAS

• Decide who will become certified
• Contact Costumer service first
• Tell them you are interested in Distance Training
• Ask them to e-mail you the order form (the one
  online is not the right one)
• Ask them to help you calculate shipment for this
  order

CASAS distance training

• Send the order form and the payment check
  together (do not fax it, it will get lost)
• Once you receive the training material, review
  it, take the test and fax. (Instructions tell you
  where to)
• In a few days you will receive an e-mail with a
  letter of being certified to use CASAS

What if

• If you did not get the minimum number to pass the
  test (36/38) then you will receive a test telling
  you to review the answers of the questions you
  didnt answer correctly
• Review them and fax the test again.

Incorporating CASAS

• Once you are certified you can contact a sales
  representative and ask for the Catalog.
• Once you get the catalog you can choose your own
  exams or you can contact a sales representative
  and talk about the plans you have for your
  program and ask what tests would be more
  appropriate.

Something to consider

• CASAS offices are located in California,
  therefore time is different.
• There are in-person trainings offered to programs
  at different times and locations though out the
  nation if Distance Learning is not a suitable
  idea for your organization.

SCC experience with CASAS

• We started our first session of CASAS test at the
  beginning of April.
• We will end in June where we will have the post
  test.
