    advisors he called his brain trust

  • 3. Reform measures to prevent future depressions

  • Examples of New Deal programs include
  • Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)
  • Some 2.5 million jobs created for youth to
    plant trees and build bridges
  • Works Project Administration (WPA)
  • Gave jobs to millions of Americans to build
    roads, airports, buildings, playgrounds, and golf
    courses

  • FDR also created programs for farmers (AAA), the
    stock market (SEC) which prevents another crash,
    and banks (FDIC) that guarantees your money will
    be there if a bank fails
  • FDR also set a minimum wage (.25) that workers
    must be paid and established todays social
    security program

  • Some people were not happy with FDR and they said
    he went too far with his power. The Supreme Court
    declared certain New Deal programs
    unconstitutional
  • FDR then threatened to add 6 more judges to the
    already 9 existing Supreme Court judges who would
    vote for his new deal programs
  • Court Packing Plan (15 total judges)

  • The New Deal helped Americans by giving them
    temporary jobs, and the economy by spending money
    to encourage business growth and production
  • Inevitably it was WWII that ended the depression
    in 1941
