3A case is a situation a noun or a pronoun is in
within a clause. It is a particular part of
speechthe function it has in the sentence.
4Lets check for the case of the noun or pronoun.
- It could be in
- Nominative
- Accusative
- Dative
- Genitive
5 Is your noun doing the verb? If so,
it is the subject of the sentence and is
NOMINATIVE.
z.B Heute geht meine Mutter mit mir einkaufen.
6Is there a preposition in front of the noun
phrase or pronoun?
If so, then use the case the preposition
requires.
an über
vor zwischen
z. B. Er arbeitet auf dem Dach.
7If that doesnt work, try this
- Can you put the English words of orfrom in
front of the phrase?
If so, then your phrase is in GENETIVE
! z. B Die Schwester meines Freundes wohnt in
Italien.
8So, you still havent found the right case, yet??
9Can you put to or for in front of the phrase
and it makes sense?
- Then your noun or pronoun
- is in
- DATIVE case!!!
z.B Wann gibst du seiner Tochter den Job?
10Still not happy?
11Everything else is in ACCUSATIVE case!!!
z. B. Ich schreibe eine Prüfung in der
Mathestunde.
