  conquered resources to build its war machine
  while Germany focused on implementing genocide to
  create its Aryan empire

• Main Idea
• The German conquest forced millions of natives
  to work for the Nazi war machine

Nazis take over continental Europe

• In 1942 Nazi regime stretched from English
  Channel to Moscow
• Two types of area control
• Annexed some areas into German provinces
• Occupied areas were run by German military or
  civilian officials
• living space contained racially inferior Slavic
  peoples
• Czech, Polish, Serbo Croatian, Slovene, and
  Ukrainian

• Himmler
• In charge of moving Slavic out/replace them with
  Germans
• 1st area was Poland ? one million Poles removed
  to make room for the two million Germans who were
  sent in to colonize provinces

• Inferior Slavic people
• 7 million labored on farms, industries, and in
  military camps
• Disrupted industries

• Reinhard Heydrich head of SS Security Service
• Created strike force Einsatzgruppen
• Forced to live in ghettos, minimal food,
  unsanitary
• Mobile killing units
• 6 extermination camps

• Final Result
• 6 million Jews (2/3 Jewish population)
• Worked to death
• Medical experiments
• Concentration camps
• 9 10 million non-Jews
• Roma (Gypsies)
• Many did not believe this was occurring
• Exaggerated German atrocities
• Ignorance
• Focused on the war effort

• Need for Japanese war machine led to conquest

  materials for manufactured goods
• Tin, oil, and rubber
• Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere
• Economic community would provide mutual benefits
  to occupied areas and Japan
