Children During the War

• People protected themselves and others in the war
  by evacuating their children to the countryside.
• They took gas masks in case there were gas bombs.
  Gas masks looked like this

BOMBS

• If there was a gas bomb, wardens used a rattle to
  tell people all around the place.
• They looked like this

THE RATTLE

• The rattle was used to tell people that there was
  a gas bomb coming their way.
• The rattle looked like this
• However the Germans never dropped gas bombs.
• The teachers made the children practise the drill
  just in case the German aeroplanes dropped gas
  bombs.

MORRISON SHELTERS

• Morrison shelters looked like a big rabbit hutch.
• They were to protect you and your family from the
  bombing outside your house. They had two very
  small bunks. You had to squeeze into the bunks
  because they were so small.
• If there was a bomb outside your house you could
  just go into the Morrison shelter .If the bomb
  landed on your home then the bricks would fall on
  the wire on top and this would protect you.
• They looked like this

ANDERSON SHELTERS

• Anderson shelters were shelters outside your
  house.
• Half of the Anderson shelter was underground
• They looked like this
