Jefferson Davis
Born in Kentucky not far from Abraham Lincoln in
distance, the only President of the Confederacy
was a war veteran and politician. He
successfully ran for the U. S. House of
Representatives, only to resign in 1846 to
prepare for the Mexican-American War. He later
became the 1st only president of the
Confederacy. Over the next two years Davis
mis-managed almost everything about the war and
the government. After his capture in Irwinville,
Ga. at the end of the war, the former president
spent two years in jail for treason but was
released before trial. Jefferson Davis died in
1889 at the age of 81.

The Battle of Chickamauga began on September 18,
1863. Both Union Confederate soldiers did not
want to battle here the forest limited
visibility to only 150ft! Battle lines were not
drawn cannons were useless. Most fighting was
man-on-man. This was one of the bloodiest battles
in the war. The South used a surprise attack,
securing the victory of this battle.

from the Tennessee Chickamauga Battles lie.
Some of them died at a hospital in Dalton. Only
one general is buried here General Bryan M.
Thomas after he died in 1905. There is also a
U.S. Representative and a member of the
