European culture and politics. - Society- Everything took place at the church-
Pilgrims visited religious places - Church officials often became political advisors
to local rulers.

- A Religious Order is a group of people who
dedicated their lives to religion and follow
common rules. - People like women who lived apart from society
made their own rules

- The Dominican started by Dominic de Guzman, and
the Franciscans, started by Francis of Assisi. - The members of these orders were called Friars
- Living within society had two new religious
orders developed for them to follow.

the art that churches used. For example, their

even the king had to follow these laws. - The charter became a key principle of English
government and an important step into the

until a peasant girl, Joan of Arc, rallied the
French troops.

the French troops and turned the tide of the
Hundred Years War.

- The disease was a deadly plague that killed
millions of Europeans between 1347 and 1351.
36Effect on manor life and feudalism/how many died?
- This disease caused sweeping changes all over
Europe. The old manor system, already weakened by
the growth of cities, collapsed. - Some historians think that the Black Death killed
over a third of Europes population-perhaps 25
million people.

- Although it was a disease from long ago it is
still around today. But long ago they didnt have
anything to keep it away. But now we have
something that we can take to keep it away.
