• Problems over state rights vs.Federal rights

The Events of the Civil War

• The first shots were fired at fort Sumter
• People took picnic baskets to watch the first
  battle
• They did not know how serious the war was
• Many lives were lost.
• The battle of Gettysburg was one of the worse
• The south was started, burned, and destroyed.
• The north won.

• The south rejoined the north.
• Slavery was abolished.
• Many lives were lost
• The country had to go through a major
  reconstruction.

• January 1861 -- The South Secedes.
• June 1861 -- Four Slave States Stay in the Union.
• January 1863 -- Emancipation Proclamation.
• November 1864 -- Abraham Lincoln Is Re-Elected.
• January 1865 -- The Fall of the Confederacy.
• April 1865 -- The Assassination of President
  Lincoln.
