ACS Style Books--Author Name Field
  • Separate the names of multiple authors by
    semicolons
  • End the author field with a period
  • List names in inverted form surname first, then
    first initial, middle initial and qualifiers
    (Jr., II)
  • If no primary authors, may place the editor names
    in the author name field
  • Acronyms for every well know organization may be
    used for works written by an Organization or a
    Committee

  • Set in roman type
  • End with a period

  • Essential, should not be abbreviated
  • Set in italic type
  • The edition number follows the book title, set
    off by an italic comma and set in roman type

  • Use Eds. or Ed. after the final name
  • End the field with a semicolon

  • Give the city and state
  • Use the two-letter postal abbreviations for
    states
  • Year of Publication
  • Set in lightface roman type
  • End the field with period or a semicolon if
    further information is given.

  • Abstract, Chapter, No. , Paper, Part, Vol.
  • If a set of books as a while is the reference, do
    not include individual volume information

  • If the book as a whole is the reference, pages
    numbers can be omitted
