WAR COMES TO AN END Yesterday, July 12, 1763,
the long and brutal war between the French and
the British officially came to an end. The
little war which started over control of the
Forks of the Ohio eventually spread into a world
war that would see fighting in Europe, Asia, and
the Caribbean. After months of long and
difficult negotiations both the British and the
French agreed to terms that would end the long
and costly war. Although the specific details
are unclear at this time it is believed that the
French gave up their land claims in Canada to the
English. In addition, France gave the Louisiana
Territory to Spain as repayment for Spains help
fighting the British. One French official who
I spoke to off the record said We feel
humiliated by this treaty but unfortunately we
are not in a position to continue fighting. The
English Government expressed their satisfaction
and claimed that this treaty now makes England
the greatest colonial power in the world.

Dear Editor I am overjoyed with the news that
war is officially over. For years we
Pennsylvanians sacrificed blood and money for the
King of England. I am glad to see that our
efforts have been rewarded with the removal of
the French from our area. I look forward to
years of peace and prosperity here in America.
