Inspection updates
  • Change to inspections from September 2015
  • Inspection workforce will be much more schools
    based (70 )
  • Current process of selection and training in
    place
  • One day inspections for good schools (piloting
    now)
  • New framework for September 2015 likely to
    include personal development, possibly
    curriculum. Publishing in June inspected to be
    trained in July, August.
  • Run by Ofsted in- house.

Inspection updates
  • A lot of Southwark schools are waiting!
  • Current focus British values, safeguarding as
    well as everything else!!
  • Sir Robin Bosher now head of training.
  • Ofsted (HMI) view Southwark in a very positive
    way currently!!

British Values
  • In Britain, a cup of tea is the answer to every
    problem. Fallen off your bicycle? Nice cup of
    tea.

OFSTED GOOD OR BAD?
  • Two recent surveys of headteachers views
  • The Key State of the Nation report
  • Ofsted school leaders views on the impact of
    inspection
  • Documents are contradictory!!!!!!

THE KEY
  • 60 of school leaders think that Ofsted is poor
    and should be replaced.
  • 75 are against no-notice inspections
  • Very unpopular policies are Free Schools, forced
    academisation, published league tables, testing
    regime.
  • Considerable concern about teacher workload,
    changes to assessment.
  • BUT 46 think education is improving (18
    getting worse).

OFSTED
  • 92 of school leaders thought that the demands of
    being inspected were reasonable and the
    judgements were fair and accurate
  • 82 thought that the benefits of inspection
    outweighed the pressures.
  • 56 thought the dialogue with inspectors was
    useful
  • 73 though inspection would help their school
    improve
  • Difference in response depending on the grade you
    received!!!
