  • A Lexile text measure is determined by
  • word frequency
  • sentence length.
  • Many other factors affect text complexity,
  • the structure of the text
  • language usage
  • the levels of meaning
  • the appropriateness of the content
  • the age and interests of the reader
  • When choosing appropriate texts, the Lexile score
    is a good starting point, but other factors must
    be considered.
