A New Approach to Behavior Change SmartCard
  • SmartCard focuses on reinforcing desirable
    actions, behaviors and conditions and eliminating
    unsafe ones.
  • When the focus is on reinforcing desirables and
    eliminating undesirables, you can achieve zero
    injuries.

  • A letter explaining how the SmartCard hotline
    works, how to earn rewards, how to qualify for a
    Qualified Safety Award and how to order gifts.

    program works and two T/F questions

Supervisor Expectations
  • Every month, you will receive the following
    training materials to teach the Safety Theme
  • SmartCards with a brief overview of the theme and
    two True/False questions.
  • Matching posters that reinforce the theme

Supervisor Expectations
  • Review the Safety Theme with employees during the
    monthly Safety Meeting.
  • Hand out SmartCards and discuss the content and
    questions.
  • Answer any questions they have about the theme or
    how the program works.
  • Encourage employees to call the hotline and
    record their answers in a timely manner.

Call the Hotline to Record Answers
  • Tell employees
  • Call the SmartCard Hotline at 1-866-690-6346 to
    record your answers to the Smartcard quiz.

Record Answers
  • Tell employees, Choose SmartCard from the menu.
  • Key in your Employee ID and the Quiz printed
    on the SmartCard.
  • Key in your answers to the 2 True/False
    questions.

QSA Entries and Instant Winners
  • Every employee who calls the Hotline will be
    automatically entered in the drawing for one of
    the Qualified Safety Awards.
  • A random number of employees will hear a message
    that they are instant winners of award points.
  • Employees can use award points immediately by
    ordering a gift from the Award of Excellence
    Catalog or save them up for a higher-level gift.
    The points will be recorded in an account for
    each employee.

Tell Employees When Calling the Hotline
  • Listen closely to the prompts and carefully key
    in the required information to ensure accuracy.
  • After entering your employee ID number, listen
    carefully when it is repeated back to you. This
    number is used for recording award points and
    grand prize entries.
  • If you enter the wrong employee id number, you
    may not receive credit for award points and QSA
    entries or another individual may receive the
    credit.

Remind employees not to call more than once to
record answers!
  • The SmartCard hotline will not allow employees to
    record answers to a particular SmartCard more
    than once.
  • They may call the Hotline any time to check their
    point balance. They should select the point
    query option when prompted. NOTE These calls do
    not generate points or entries for QSAs.
  • Point balances can also be checked on-line at
    www.incentivesonline.com/itt.
  • Login with the employee ID .

with You Did It Right! Cards
  • Employees win more award points with You Did It
    Right! cards.

Supervisors Award You Did It Right! Cards
  • When you see an employee demonstrating one of the
    behaviors printed on aYou Did It Right! Card,
    give them a card.
  • Instruct the employee to call the phone number
    printed on the card, choose You Did It Right
    from the menu and enter the PIN number printed on
    the card.
  • They may hear a message that they have won more
    award points. Every caller will receive another
    entry for a QSA.

Increase Awareness of Unsafe Conditions with
Hazard Hunt Cards
  • Employees will ask Supervisors for a Hazard Hunt
    card, which lists eight different unsafe
    conditions / practices / behaviors plus a space
    for other.
  • Every time an employee sees one of the listed
    unsafe conditions or any other unsafe condition,
    they should tell their supervisor.

Hazard Hunt Cards
  • On the Hazard Hunt card, employees keep a tally
    for the month of all the unsafe conditions /
    practices / behaviors they see.
  • At the end of the month, employees call the
    hotline to record card totals. They will
    automatically be entered in the drawing for a QSA
    and may be an instant winner of more award points.

How do employees redeem points?
Turn to the middle of the Award of Excellence
catalog for a price list of gift items. Fill out
the order form located in the catalog OR print
out an order form online at www.incentivesonline.c
om. Mail the completed form to Award of
Excellence. Points will automatically be
deducted from personal accounts when the order is
processed. Merchandise is shipped to the
employees home by UPS and normally takes 1-2
weeks after receipt of an order.

Can you combine points from Hazard Hunt cards,
You Did It Right! cards and SmartCards?
Yes! You can use all the points in your account
from SmartCard, You Did it Right! card and Hazard
Hunt calls to the Hotline. All award points will
automatically be deducted from the employees
personal account when orders are filled!

Treat SmartCards, You Did It Right! Cards and
Hazard Hunt cards like cash!
Remind employees that lost or stolen cards cannot
be replaced!

How will Qualified Safety Awards be awarded?
  • The First QSA will be awarded in October 2008
    from all the entries received from SmartCard
    calls, You Did It Right! Card calls and Hazard
    Hunt card calls.
  • Additional drawings will be held every quarter to
    award a trip.
  • Each QSA is valued at 400 award points.

Qualifying for a QSA
  • At the time of the drawing, only individuals who
    are current employees and who have participated
    in all three program components will qualify.

  • August 2008 Kickoff with Managers
  • August 2008 Introduction of SmartCard program
    and distribution of kickoff materials at
    Department Meetings.
  • September 2008 August 2009 SmartCard
    distributed at Department Meetings
  • October 2008 First QSA winner announced.

transferable. If your employment with Enbridge
ends, you forfeit all unused award points and
certificates.

You will be notified by your supervisor that your
name was pulled in the drawing. Then, you will
be awarded a QSA Certificate.

How long does it take to receive a catalog item?
A
After mailing in your order form, your gift will
be sent by UPS to your residence. This may take
one to two weeks.

When I complete a gift order form, how will the
Award of Excellence Center know whether I have
enough points?

Personal point accounts are checked when orders
are received. The points are automatically
deducted from your account when the order is
filled.
