The First Humans
  • Hunter Gatherers The first period of human
    history is called the Old Stone Age, or the
    Paleolithic age. Which is around 10,000 B.C.
  • The earliest evidence of life was found in Africa
    in 1959.
  • The Female remains (Lucy) was found in a rock in
    east Africa.

  • Paleolithic people lived in small food gathering
    bands, about 20 or 30 people.
  • Women and children gathered fruit and berries
    while the men hunted prey
  • They moved wherever the animals moved. And rarely
    stayed in one location for a period of time.

Environmental effects on Nomads
  • During several Ice ages, or periods where the
    earth cooled. Nomads faced bitter cold and were
    forced to create clothing from animal skins.
  • They also lived in caves to shield themselves
    from the wind and rain.

  • We know this because of paintings left on cave
    walls.

  • In the End of the Old Stone age, some people
    began burying their dead with great care.
  • They buried people with tools, weapons and other
    needed goods.
  • This suggest that they probably believed in
    afterlife.

  • About 11,000 years nomads learned how to farm,
    and were to stay in one place if they choose to.
  • This allowed to develop new skills and tools as
    well as communities.
  • This technology began a new age the New Stone Age
    or the Neolithic age.
