control over their countries and reliant on
western government. - Japan took drastic steps to emulate and use
western technology to create a modern imperial
Japan.
-China and India have no path to independence
other than that offered by our guidance and
protection. Ikki, Kita, An Outline Plan for
the reorganization of Japan Imperialism in the
Modern World Sources and Interpretations, ed.
William D Bowman, Frank M. Chiteji, J. and Megan
Greene (New Jersey Pearson, Prentice Hall,

8 The Fight Against Imperialism.
Formally men worked in the open air so much as
they liked. Now, thousands of workmen meet
together and for the sake of maintenance work in
factories or mines. Their condition is worse then
that of beasts. (M.K. Gandhi, Civilization,
Imperialism in the Modern World Sources and
Interpretations, ed. William D Bowman, Frank M.
Chiteji, J. and Megan Greene (New Jersey
Pearson, Prentice Hall, 2007), 54.
- This quote was stated by Mohandas Karamchand
Gandhi. - Take a minute or two to think about what Gandhi
is trying to say?
