40 Years
11From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
Genesis 1513 Then the LORD said to him
(Abraham) , "Know for certain that your
descendants will be strangers in a country not
their own, and they will be enslaved and
mistreated four hundred years. But I will punish
the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward
they will come out with great possessions. You,
however, will go to your fathers in peace and be
buried at a good old age. In the fourth
generation your descendants will come back here,
for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached
its full measure. (Gods grace extends to all
people, especially sinners. But there are hard
hearted people that God knows will not change
their ways. Yet He still gives the worst sinners
a chance to repent. The Flood of Noahs day came
many years after Noah was commanded to create the
arc.)
Part I 40 Years in the Desert
12From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
Exodus 37-15 The Lord said, I have indeed seen
the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard
them crying out because of their slave drivers,
and I am concerned about their suffering. So I
have come down to rescue them from the hand of
the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that
land into a good and spacious land, a land
flowing with milk and honeythe home of the
Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites,
Hivites and Jebusites (How often to we find
ourselves in trials of life and beg God to save
us?)
Part I 40 Years in the Desert
13From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
Exodus 66-12 Therefore, say to the Israelites
I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from
under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you
from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you
with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of
judgment. I will take you as my own people, and
I will be your God. Then you will know that I
am the Lord your God, who brought you out from
under the yoke of the Egyptians. (Jesus said we
should believe in Him by the miracles that
testified of who he was.)
Part I 40 Years in the Desert
14From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
Exodus 66-12 ..Moses reported this to the
Israelites, but they did not listen to him
because of their discouragement and cruel
bondage. ( The sinners heart sees no way
out.) ..Then the Lord said to Moses, Go, tell
Pharaoh king (SATAN) of Egypt to let the
Israelites go out of his country. But Moses
said to the Lord, If the Israelites will not
listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me,
since I speak with faltering lips? (We can not
save anyone. Only can save. We must minister to
the lost in Gods power.)
Part I 40 Years in the Desert
15From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
Exodus 4 22 Then say to Pharaoh, This is what
the LORD says Israel is my firstborn son, and
I told you, Let my son (Nation of Israel) go, so
he may worship me. But you refused to let him
go so I (God) will kill your firstborn son.
(Satan will not release you from your sin
without the power of God. A type for Jesus and
the Saints as First Fruits of the Resurrection.
Jesus, Gods One and Only Son would die for our
Sins. Satans Pharaoh would suffer the same fate.)
Part I 40 Years in the Desert
16From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
Numbers 141-4Â Â Â Â Â That night all the people of
the community raised their voices and wept aloud.
2 All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and
Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, If
only we had died in Egypt! Or in this Desert!
..Wouldnt it be better for us to go back to
Egypt? And they said to each other, We should
choose a leader and go back to Egypt.
. Genesis1926 But Lot's wife looked back, and
she became a pillar of salt. (For four hundred
years Israel cried out to God to save them. But
at each trial they looked to go back to bondage.
The nature of our Sin nature is that we dont
live in Faith and continue to look back to our
life of SIN. We are called to look forward to the
Promised Land of Eternal Life.)
Part I 40 Years in the Desert
17From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
Numbers 1420-24 The Lord replied, I have
forgiven them, as you asked. 21 Nevertheless, as
surely as I live and as surely as the glory of
the Lord fills the whole earth, not one of the
men who saw my glory and the miraculous signs I
performed in Egypt and in the Desert but who
disobeyed me and tested me ten times not one of
them will ever see the land I promised on oath to
their forefathers. No one who has treated me
with contempt will ever see it. But because my
servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows
me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land
he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.
(God is pleased by Faith and will lead His
Faithful through the Wilderness of Trials to
Build our Faith, But we will see Eternal Life)
Part I 40 Years in the Desert
18From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
1 Numbers 146-96 Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son
of Jephunneh, who were among those who had
explored the land, tore their clothes 7 and said
to the entire Israelite assembly, The land we
passed through and explored is exceedingly good.
If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us
into that land, a land flowing with milk and
honey, and will give it to us. 9 Only do not
rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of
the people of the land, because we will swallow
them up. Their protection is gone, but the Lord
is with us. Do not be afraid of them. (We are
to encourage others to Faith in Messiah and the
Born Again life we have in Him that can destroy
our Sin Nature. We are to tell others that it is
a better and good life.)
Part I 40 Years in the Desert
19From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
Numbers 1330 But the men who had gone up with
him said, "We are not able to go up against the
people, for they are too strong for us." Â So
they gave out to the sons of Israel a bad report
of the land which they had spied out.. (Only
Caleb and Joseph had the Faith needed to take the
Promised Land so Israel spent 40 years wandering
in the desert so this generation would die out.
How long will you live in Spiritual Wilderness
before having Faith in Gods redeeming power
through the Holy Spirit?)
Part I 40 Years in the Desert
20From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
John 1010 The thief comes only to steal and
kill and destroy I have come that they may
have life, and have it to the full. 1 Timothy
612 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold
of the eternal life to which you were called when
you made your good confession in the presence of
many witnesses. (God wanted Israel to take hold
of the Promised Land but through lack of Faith
they continual frustrated their promises in God.
Let us enter the Promised Land of our Salvation
through unwavering Faith through submission to
the Holy Spirit.)

21From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
The Cyclical Nature of Sin and Gods Redemption
In and Out of the Promised Land
- God blesses us
- Pride of self-sufficiency
- Sin puts us in bondage
- We cry out for deliverance
We Dont Stay in the Promised Land
- The Nation of Israel after Entering the Promised
Land - The Pagan Nations like Egypt, Assyria, Babylon
- Carnal or Worldly Believers

22From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
John 631-35 Our forefathers ate the manna in the
Desert as it is written He gave them bread
from heaven to eat. Jesus said to them, I tell
you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you
the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who
gives you the true bread from heaven. 35 Then
Jesus declared, I am the bread of life. He who
comes to me will never go hungry, and he who
believes in me will never be thirsty. (Jesus
ties the Exodus and Wilderness experience to the
Gospel in many ways. Passover is truly about
Messiah as we will see tomorrow in our Passover
Seder. Living in Faith in Messiah is the key to
move out of the Spiritual Wilderness of Sin and
into the Promised Land)
23From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
Exodus 16-10 Now Joseph and all his brothers and
all that generation died, but the Israelites were
fruitful and multiplied greatly and became
exceedingly numerous, so that the land was filled
with them. Then a new king, who did not know
about Joseph, came to power in Egypt. Look, he
said to his people, the Israelites have become
much too numerous for us. Come, we must deal
shrewdly with them.. (How often do we forget the
saving grace of God in our lives only to allow
sin to move us to go against God. This is the
pattern we see in the Pagan nations throughout
the Bible. Replacement Theology is based on
forgetting the Spiritual Blessings God gave the
Church through the Jewish people. )
24From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
Deuteronomy 81-19 Do Not Forget the Lord
8Â Â Â Â Â Be careful to follow every command I am
giving you today, so that you may live and
increase and may enter and possess the land that
the Lord promised on oath to your forefathers.
Remember how the Lord your God led you all the
way in the Desert these forty years, to humble
you and to test you in order to know what was in
your heart, whether or not you would keep his
commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger
and then feeding you with manna, which neither
you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that
man does not live on bread alone but on every
word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
25From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
Deuteronomy 84 For the Lord your God is
bringing you into a good landa land with streams
and pools of water, with springs flowing in the
valleys and hills a land with wheat and barley,
vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and
honey a land where bread will not be scarce and
you will lack nothing a land where the rocks are
iron and you can dig copper out of the hills. 1
Corinthians 29 However, as it is written No
eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has
conceived what God has prepared for those who
love him ( Our life in Messiah is a better
life than our life in sin. Even in our trials we
need to see Gods purpose and not fall back to
our Egypt)
26From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
Deuteronomy 81-10 When you have eaten and are
satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good
land he has given you. Be careful that you do
not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe
his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am
giving you this day. Otherwise, when you eat
and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and
settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow
large and your silver and gold increase and all
you have is multiplied, then your heart will
become proud and you will forget the Lord your
God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the
land of slavery. (Many of us call on God when
we are in Spiritual Wilderness or Trials, but
forget God when he blesses us. Then we fall back
into sin and the cycle of bondage and crying for
Gods deliverance begins again.)

The Straight path of Faith
- God blesses us
- We Sin
- Consequences of sin
- We confess and repent
- God forgives
- We live in Gods blessing
We stay in the Promised Land

- Mature Believers who live in the Holy Spirit of
Messiah - Persian Empire during the Purim story

28From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
Genesis 5015 When Josephs brothers saw that
their father was dead, they said, What if Joseph
holds a grudge against us and pays us back for
all the wrongs we did to him? Genesis
5019-21 But Joseph said to them, Dont be
afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended
to harm me, but God intended it for good to
accomplish what is now being done, the saving of
many lives. So then, dont be afraid. I will
provide for you and your children. And he
reassured them and spoke kindly to them.
(Josephs brothers eventually repented and were
saved from famine. Gods mercy extends to all
who repent and come to Messiah in Faith. )
29From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
1 Samuel 17 8 Goliath stood and shouted to the
ranks of Israel, "Why do you come out and line up
for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you
not the servants of Saul? Choose a man and have
him come down to me. 9 If he is able to fight and
kill me, we will become your subjects but if I
overcome him and kill him, you will become our
subjects and serve us." 10 Then the Philistine
said, "This day I defy the ranks of Israel! Give
me a man and let us fight each other." 11 On
hearing the Philistine's words, Saul and all the
Israelites were dismayed and terrified. ( We
continual face life trials that seem to big for
us so we live in FEAR and our effectiveness for
God is weakened.)
30From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
1 Samuel 17 45 David said to the Philistine,
"You come against me with sword and spear and
javelin, but I come against you in the name of
the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of
Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the
LORD will hand you over to me, and I'll strike
you down and cut off your head. Today I will give
the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds
of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the
whole world will know that there is a God in
Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that
it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves
for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give
all of you into our hands." (David fought the
battle of Goliath through Gods power and not his
own weakness. We can only defeat Satan with the
Power of the Holy Spirit in Faith.)
31From Egypt to the Promised Land is a Desert
1 Samuel 1517 Samuel said, Although you were
once small in your own eyes, did you not become
the head of the tribes of Israel? The Lord
anointed you king over Israel. 1 Samuel
1522-26 For rebellion is like the sin of
divination, and arrogance like the evil of
idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of
the Lord, he has rejected you as king. Then
Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned. I violated
the Lords command and your instructions. I was
afraid of the people and so I gave in to them.
Now I beg you, forgive my sin and come back
with me, so that I may worship the Lord. But
Samuel said to him, I will not go back with you.
You have rejected the word of the Lord, and the
Lord has rejected you as king over Israel!
