BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
  • Pramotion of ILO con. 87 con. 98.
  • GOVERNMENT OF INDIA IS NOT RATIFYING THE CON. 87
    CON. 98. SAYING - 1) THE INDIAN CONSTITUTION
    IS ALREADY HAVING SIMILAR CONVENTIONS. SO THERE
    IS NO NEED TO RATIFY THESE CONVENTIONS.
  • There is lot of pressure on the government
    because of open policy of W.T.O. Thus refuses to
    take any risk.
  • Employer does not allow to form union as they
    think it is a nuesance
  • Emplyees are scared to come out on any union
    issues as to retain the job security.

Achivements
  • Submitted the project to INTUC
  • Organised a State Seminar on ILO Con. 87 98
    on 8th March 2003 and 2004.
  • Established contacts with leaders of other Trade
    Unions to enlist their support for ratification
    of ILO Con. 87 98 by Govt. of INDIA. And held
    rally of workers on 10th April 2004.
  • Contacted members of parliament and informed them
    about importance of ILO conventions and
    ratification by Govt. of India viz. Mr. Sharad
    Pawar-President , Nationalist congress party,
    Shri. Suresh Kalmadi- M.P. All India Congress
    Committee
  • Submitted the documents to The Labour Minister
    of Maharastra State Mr. Hemant Deshmukh and
    impressed upon him the need to ratify the ILO
    conventions.

  • Conducted 3days training progrmme on women
    leadership development in Mumbai with the
    cooperation of Workers Education Department of
    Maharashtra State Govt. on 29-30-31st Dec 2003.

EVALUATION
  • Though a few impressive achievements were made
    further progress could not be made due to paucity
    of funds.There is a vast field for organisation
    of a strong lobby for ratification of ILO
    Conventions.
  • India is a vast country with distances and
    different languages. In order to reach out to
    them a lot of travelling is involved. This
    involves funds which are scarce.
