Title: Fourth Grade Parent Night
1Fourth Grade Parent Night
2Goal of Life
3Let the Children Come To Me
4How Do We Let the Children Come to Christ?
We need to look at what it takes to help a child
attain their ultimate goal of union with Christ.
5Child Body Soul
6Body
Emotional
Physical
- This is about the time that students have a
greater awareness of self and those around them.
Part of our job as parents and teachers is to
help them learn how to channel the emotions that
come with the awareness of differences in
personalities, interests, tastes, etc.
- This is always important-recess, PE, etc.
- We are big proponents of students being on some
sort of team that involves activities.
7Soul
Will To Choose the Good
Intellect To Know the Truth
- God is the ultimate Truth
- As parents and teachers, we can lead them to seek
the truth by filling their souls with as much
that is pure and good as possible. - We must teach them to think critically, helping
them to evaluate what will lead them to God.
- God is the Ultimate Good
- We must help students choose what is good, even
if it is against what their emotions are telling
them. - This will help lead them to God, the ONE in Whom
they will find ultimate happiness.
8The Goal is to GROW
- They dont know everything yet-and wont!
- This is difficult because we are used to
conquering everything quickly. - We grow in self-esteem when we have found that we
conquered something difficult, not when we have
finished something easy.

12Switching for Each Class
- Responsibility of the Child The students switch
almost every period. This requires a lot of
organization, as well as their awareness of where
they are going next.
- What can you do to help?
- When possible, be at school on time, if not
earlier. This will give the students plenty of
time at their lockers in the morning.
- What are we doing to help?
- Schedules posted in their lockers
- Color coded books
- Only one main notebook.
- All folders are in their binders
- Coming down a few minutes early to their
classrooms to unpack.
13Be Prepared!
- Responsibility of the Child The students are
expected to arrive on time for class, have all
materials and assignments necessary, be
respectful of the teacher and other students, and
do their best in whatever task given.
- What are we doing to help?
- Teachers will be helping students switch classes
to make sure transitions go smoothly. - Teachers will help students be sure they have the
proper books.
- What can you do to help?
- Help students make sure bags are packed the night
before-especially first quarter-after that they
will gain confidence.
14Higher Behavioral Expectations (continued)
- Responsibility of the Child The students are
expected to arrive on time for class, have all
materials and assignments necessary, be
respectful of the teacher and other students, and
do their best in whatever task given.
- What are we doing to help?
- A clipboard will move from class to class and
minor infractions will be marked down and sent
home weekly in their Friday Folder. - Positive feedback and well planned lessons to
provide students with strong support for success.
- What can you do to help?
- Have true consequences AT HOME when students have
missing homework assignments or have been written
down on the clipboard. - CHECK PLANNERS DAILY!!!
- Praise and focus on their successes-we all live
up to the standard set.
15Lockers
Responsibility of the Child The students are
expected to keep their books and other materials
in their lockers. Their lockers should stay
clean and organized and free of clutter.
- What are we doing to help?
- The students lockers will be free of most
non-school related items. The students will be
given time periodically to clean their lockers.
- What can you do to help?
- Again, helping students to be on time for school
will be helpful in allowing them ample time at
their locker in the morning.
16DemeritsPlease be sure there are true
repercussions at home.
17Lined Paper and Headers
- Responsibility of the Child The students are
expected to write on the correct side of the
paper, between the margins, and with a proper
heading on their paper.
- What are we doing to help?
- The teachers will require any work written on the
wrong side of the paper or with tears in the
paper to be redone. - The teachers will have a sample piece of lined
paper with a proper heading posted in their
rooms.
- What can you do to help?
- Have your child redo any work done on the wrong
side of the paper before he or she brings it back
to school in the morning.
18Academics-Note Taking
- Responsibility of the Child The students will
have a notebook where they take notes off the
board in an organized and neat manner. Students
are also responsible for ALL NOTES MISSED DURING
AN ABSENCE.
- What are we doing to help?
- The teachers will model how to take notes and
show them the expectations we have for their
notebooks. - The students will be given time at recess to copy
down notes missed. - If a student is absent for many days, the teacher
will make a copy of the notes missed.
- What can you do to help?
- Expect students work to be neat. If you go to
study with them and their notebook is messy, ask
them to rewrite their notes. - Be conscious of over-scheduling children.
19Academics-Test Taking
- Responsibility of the Child The students will be
assessed by means of quizzes, tests, labs, class
activities and projects on a regular basis.
These assessments will call for higher thinking
skills requiring the student to think critically.
- What are we doing to help?
- The teachers will give adequate notes and
activities in class to prepare students for
assessments. - The students will be given advance notice about
tests-at least two or three days. - The students will generally have some form of
assessment before a test in order to gain
feedback on their understanding.
- What can you do to help?
- Study with your children nightly. This is a
great year to form good study habits in your
children. THEY WILL NEED HELP. - Go over their planners nightly in order to remind
them of tests and quizzes coming up.
20Academics-Homework
- Responsibility of the Child The students are
responsible for writing down all homework in
their planner as well as completing their
homework neatly, accurately, and on time. If a
student is absent, he or she is responsible for
turning in the completed homework when returning
to school.
- What are we doing to help?
- Teachers will not give more than 1-1.5 hours of
written homework a night (this does not include
studying or long range projects). This estimate
is for the average student. - Teachers will write the homework on the board in
each class and give students time to write down
assignments in their planners. - Teachers will check homework daily.
- What can you do to help?
- Study with your children nightly.
- Check planners nightly.
- Look over their homework-if it is incorrect,
sloppy, has incomplete sentences, etc, ask them
to do it again. - DO NOT BRING IN HOMEWORK LEFT AT HOME-it will be
counted late regardless.
21To Wrap Up
- Please be at school on time.
- Please help the students stay organized.
- Help your child become independent.
- Please expect that your child try his or her
best. - Please contact the teachers with questions and
concerns-the more we know, the better we can
help.
