Welcome, Parents!
  • My name is Shannon Lay and this is my tenth year
    of teaching. I have always taught fourth grade
    and I love it!
  • Im looking forward to having your son or
    daughter in my class this year!!!!
  • We will be working very hard on the basics
    reading, writing, and mathematics. ? In
    addition, we will work on social studies and
    science!
  • The following is a general overview of my
    classroom, procedures, and students expectations.

Social Studies

We will start our year by studying our countrys
geography. We will then look at the different
regions of the United States the West, South,
Middle West, and the Northeast. We will work on
map skills and do a fun unit on our wonderful
state Illinois!

Binders
  • AGENDAS
  • Provided by the school, in binder.
  • Used to track daily assignments.
  • Parents Has your child completed all of the
    assignments for the day?
  • Parent signature/initial
  • Weekly homework assignments note taped into the
    back of the agenda

  • Your childs behavior chart is in his or her
    binder. Please check it nightly and sign at the
    end of the week.
  • Spelling words are in the binder. Please leave
    them there for home and school use. A list is
    also on my website.
  • Please check the reading log each week. The log
    is normally due on Thursday. If we are not
    working out of our textbook, we will not have a
    story on the reading log due for the week.
  • Study Guides are in the binders. They are not
    homework. These should be used as a tool to help
    prepare for tests.
  • The newsletter is at the back of the binder. If
    you sent back a note that stated you do not need
    one, I know that you will get your newsletter off
    of my website. Thanks!

Additional notes
  • Family Times Please use it as a guide for the
    story we are working on for the week. It has a
    summary, our comprehension skills, vocabulary,
    and our language arts topic.
  • Website-My website is linked to the district
    website. It is under the Middle School. It has
    many links, study guides, spelling words, etc. I
    update it weekly.
