16Math
17Math First Quarter
- Develop number sense for whole numbers through
9,999 - Connect model, number word and number using a
variety of representations, place value (ones
through thousands), compare and order - Develop fluency with multi-digit addition and
subtraction through 9,999 using strategies,
estimation, and relationship between operations - Use basic properties (identity, commutative,
associative) for addition and subtraction - Develop flexibility in solving problems by
selecting strategies and using mental
computation, estimation, calculators or
computers, and paper and pencil -
- Use a rectangular coordinate system to solve
problems, graph and identify points with whole
number and/or letter coordinates, and describe
the path between given points on the plane - Describe extend numeric and geometric patterns
- Extend find missing terms of repeating and
growing patterns
18Math Second Quarter
- Develop fluency with multiplication from 1 x 1 to
12 x 12 and division up to 2-digit by 1 digit
numbers using strategies for multiplying and
dividing numbers, estimation of products and
quotients, in appropriate situations, and
relationship between operations - Use basic properties (identity, commutative,
associative, order of operations) for
multiplication and division - Develop flexibility in solving problems by
selecting strategies and using mental
computation, estimation, calculators or
computers, and paper and pencil - Solve problems using measurement concepts and
procedures involving equivalent measures (mass)
within the same measurement system - Estimate and measure using appropriate units
using mass (ounces, pounds, grams, kilograms) and
temperature (Fahrenheit and Celsius) - Permutations and combinations up to 3 items and
solve probability problems using permutations and
combinations
19Math Third Quarter
- Use area or region models and set models of
fractions to explore part-whole relationships,
represent fractions concretely and symbolically
(halves, fourths, thirds, sixths, eighths),
compare order fractions (halves, fourths,
thirds, sixths, eighths) using models and
benchmark numbers (0, ½, 1) - Model and describe common equivalents, especially
relationships between halves, fourths, and
eighths, and thirds and sixths, understand that
the fractional relationships that occur between 0
and 1 also occur between every two consecutive
whole number, and understand and use mixed
numbers and their equivalent fraction forms - Develop flexibility in solving problems by
selecting strategies and using mental
computation, estimation, calculators or
computers, and paper and pencil - Solve problems using measurement concepts and
procedures involving elapsed time and equivalent
measures (capacity and length) within the same
measurement system - Estimate and measure using appropriate units of
capacity (cups, pints, quarts, gallons, liters)
and length (miles, kilometers) - Use symbols to represent unknown quantities in
number sentences and find the value of the
unknown in a number sentence
20Math Fourth Quarter
- Develop flexibility in solving problems by
selecting strategies and using mental
computation, estimation, calculators or
computers, and paper and pencil - Solve problems using measurement concepts and
procedures involving elapsed time - Use appropriate vocabulary to compare, describe
and classify 2 and 3-dimensional figures - Collect, organize, analyze, and display data
(circle graphs and tables) to solve problems
21Math
- Pacing guide by quarter
-
- Teachers web sites for WONDERFUL math activities
- Immediate knowledge of basic math facts
(addition, subtraction, multiplication, and
division) - Classscapes A computer based tool the 3rd grade
will use to assess the students each 9 weeks
22Accelerated Math
- reinforcement of objectives taught in class
- bubbling practice
23NC Pre End-of-Grade TestNC End-of-Grade Test

system, and state achievement levels
27NC Pre End-of-Grade TestNC End-of-Grade Test

- Student learning will show as growth at the end
of the year
28NC End-of-Grade Tests
