11Modernization Strategies and their status
- All the Spanish NPPS are in a modernization
process - The control rooms will have a Hybrid Human
Machine Interface - Without complete modernizations in one outage
- Without strategic alliances with one supplier
(although main suppliers are preferred) - The changes start in Non safety (although key
safety systems are also modernized) - The simulator is used previously
- Bigger modernization changes
- Vandellós II (Plant computer, Turbine control,
PLCs, ) - Ascó I y II (Turbine control, Reactor control,
PLCs, ) - Almaraz I y II (Turbine control, Reactor and BOP
control in process, ) - Trillo (Teleperm XP installation in YG30, MAE and
Telecontrol, ) - Garoña (Condensate control, Rod Control, Plant
computer, Recirculation control, Power Range
Neutron Monitoring System, ) - Cofrentes (BOP control, Turbine control in
process, )
12Modernization Strategie Example Cofrentes (GE)
- Platforms for digital IC
- Non Safety Honeywell TPS GE Mark VI
- Safety Numac Other (non decided yet)
- Plan for bigger modernizations
- 2009
- Turbine and Bypass Control
- Neutron Monitoring System (PRM)
- Plant Process Computer
- 2011
- Plant Process Computer
- Feedwater Control
- Rod Control Information System
- 2013
- Recirculation Control
- ECCS Controls
13Modernization Strategie Example Almaraz I II
(W)
- Platforms for digital IC
- Non Safety Ovation
- Safety Other (non decided yet)
- Plan for bigger modernizations
- 2007
- Reactor Control
- BOP Control (MSRs)
- 2008
- Process Computer
- Auxiliary Feedwater Turbopump Control (Safety)
- BOP Control (MSRs)
- 2009
- Process Computer
- Auxiliary Feedwater Turbopump Control (Safety)
- BOP Control (Heaters)
- Generator sequencers
14Almaraz IC Plan
15Modernization Strategie Example Trillo (KWU)
- Platforms for digital IC
- Non Safety Teleperm XP (SPPA T2000)
- Safety TXS is the normal evolution
- Plan for bigger modernizations
- 2007
- Neutron Measurement Calibration (Aeroball system)
- Plant Process Computer
- 2008

28IC Licensing in Spain
- Safety Guide 1.11 of the Regulatory body -gt
Similar to 10CFR 50.59 - Referencia a la USNRC Reg. Guide 1.187, EPRI
TR-12348 Rev1 NEI 01-01 y al NEI 96-07 rev.1 - A comom guide for IC licensing has been
developed in the sector - Regulation of the original country of each NPP
- In the case of an American Plant the main
regulation is - 10CFR50 Domestic Licensing of Production and
Utilization Facilities - 10CFR50.59 Changes, Tests and Experiments
Cambiada en año 1999. - 10CFR50 Appendix A. General Design Criteria for
NPPS - 10CFR50 Appendix B. Quality Assurance Criteria
for NPPS and... - What about European Guides/Other Guides? Their
use depends of their consideration in the
original country of each NPP and the position of
goups like this
29UNESA-6 Guide Agreement in Spanish Sector
Based on EPRI TR-12348 Rev1 NEI 01-01
30Details of IC Dev. Process
- Tipical engineering Process
- The specification is the Key Phase
- The technical Evaluation is simplified when a
cualified equipment is used - In Safety Systems it is needed an independent VV
- The Regulatory Body appears from the begining
- The licensing process is completely defined
31Ideas for the work of the IC IAEA group
- Practical details on normative (classification
examples in Europe and USA 10CFR50, RSK, IEC
61226, IEC61508, ) - Practical examples of configuration control in
real control systems - Definition of dedication tests
- Summary of Modernizations (finished and in
process) - Of bigger systems
- Of smaller systems (mainly 1E)
- Training courses in modernized simulators
- Modernization seminars (like the Nuclear Seminar
on Nuclear Automation de 2004 organized by NSSK) - Contacts with other sectors (trains, planes,
refineries, ...)
