We contacted the previous students who had left
without completing or not re-enrolled, and we
asked them some questions in order to discover
  • if they had enrolled in another school
  • if they had work experience
  • type of job they required
  • training course attendance
  • educational qualifications (in particular their
    parents qualifications) and the
    influence of their parents cultural backgrounds
  • other activities
  • jobs expectations

The next step was to discover why students had
decided not to continue their education. We used
the following criteria

After the survey we focused our attention on
other factors
- the students social and cultural context
backgrounds - the students area of residence -
travelling time to school - junior school of
origin - previous failures - enrolment in other
high schools - facilities and services they
might have in their areas -
interests - reading preferences - free-time
activities
