The first 12 months of the Scone Network have
been devoted to
- Development of a simple and user friendly
communication channel - Visits and bilateral meetings to better
understand local relevant good practices
supporting the company creation process - Setting up and animation of the Spinning club
- Project building activities among Members
- Exploring synergies with other relevant Thematic
Network

- The Scone communication Strategy is based on

- The Scone Central portal (www.sconetwork.net)
stimulates and supports cooperation among Members - It is used as tool for spreading relevant
information and good practices (regarding
scouting, pre seed, incubation and acceleration)
identified at regional level - It is intended to be
- A virtual platform for discussion and exchanging
information among members and spinning club
companies - A virtual place for project building activities
and/or business cooperation

- The Scone Web Site is continuously under
improvement. - It is envisaged to develop a an interactive
discussion forum among Scone Members and Spinning
Club Companies (restricted area) - A dedicated site for SP Companies is under
construction (www.spinning-club.com). It will be
designed according to SC Company needs and
suggestions

The diversity that characterises the European
Regions is one of its major strengths.

Learning from each other, adapting each others
good practices with a view to improve existing
support measures, these are the main activities
within the Scone project
9- These examples of good practice can be useful
for - persons involved in business support measures,
- especially to the professionals working directly
with enterprises in helping them to develop their
business.

stressing regional strengths and weaknesses in
terms of company creation - A shared database of Regions capacity in
implementing effective tools and schemes for
supporting knowledge valorisation and company
creation - Projects (on regional, national and European
level) integrating tools supporting the creation
of knowledge based company

133. The Spinning Club, a cluster of new ventures

- The Scone members have identified 19 Companies
which form the Spinning Club (SC). -
14The Spinning Club
The Spinning club is acting as a reference group
for the validation of the Knowledge valorisation
tools available in the Regions. It is
conceived for ensuring a bottom up-demand side
approach for projects building and good practices
exchange among Scone Members. The Scone network
is assisting Spinning Club Members to make
national and international contacts which, in
turn, will help SMEs to access new markets for
the products and services, and find international
partners and customers.
15Criteria for SC Members Selection

- SME, entrepreneurs and/or researchers
- Already experienced within the region tools and
schemes for knowledge valorisation and company
creation. - For companies SMEs are innovative, fast growing
and familiar with EU programmes

- Through an effective ideas sharing process, the
network is making available selected measures
supporting the creation of Knowledge based
companies and develop new ones through project
building activities carried out both on regional
and interregional level

companies (E-VAI) - Economic and Technological Intelligence

Regional/National Level
- Scone is also supporting the integration of
tools and meausures for the creation of knowledge
based companies into Regional development
programmes, helping Members to reach ad hoc
facilities and eu grants and aids (i.e. European
Investment Fund (EIF) for seed capital funds and
incubation programmes via the Multiannual
Programme for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship
(MAP) 2001-2005) - So far, Aosta Valley, Sicily, Umbria and
Slovenia have received ad hoc support for
introducing specific measures into their regional
innovation strategies

(2002-2005)
- Inspired is an Innovation Policy Interface
Accompanying measure which will support and
contribute to the strategic objectives of the
European thematic networks dealing with
entrepreneurship and high tech start up
development, and recommend a set of strategic
priorities for innovation policy at European
level.
23SLORITTS Regional Innovation and Technology
Transfer Strategy for Slovenia (2002-2004)
- Slovenia is Member of the Scone project and Meta
Group is the international consultant for
Sloritts project which aims at developing the
regional strategy for TT and innovation of
Slovenia. - Strategy for supporting the creation of knowledge
based companies will be a key point for the next
Slovenian innovation policy
24ISMEInternational Network for SMEs"
- INSME's main objective is to set up, at
international level, a Community of political and
technical stakeholders working in the field of
innovation and technological transfer. It is an
initiative aimed at stimulating SME's innovation
processes, through the strengthening of
technology transfer services supply. INSME will
act as a hub, facilitator and catalyser of
existing intermediaries and their networks at
national, regional and international level and
will contribute to specialising, integrating and
internationalising their offerings set with
regards to innovation and technology transfer to
SMEs. - It will be used as tool for supporting Spinning
Club companies and their activities
