create their own library enwironment
4How to get to know? We didt want just to ask,
in order not to get the answers they thought we
expected.
5We have listened to professional futurists and
trend analysts. We have used vocational
categories that are not quite obvious in
connection to libraries, e.g. exhibition
pedagogues, architecture consultants, stage
designers, scenery painters, a student at the
industrial design programme and interaction
designers.

Jesper Bo Jensen, Denmark

film (The Pedagogic Centre of Culture,
Simrishamn, Skåne)
7Workshops by Swedens only architecture
consultant for children, Mie Svennberg and
Rebecka Graaf, interior decorator (Västra
Götaland)
8In Mölndal the children built the library of
their dreams, based on an enquiry with local
residents, made by the children themselves.

14In Skövde pupils made an analysis of the library
and decided what parts of it they wanted to
change.
15They came up with
16Study rooms
A jungle room
A japanese room
Rooms for roll playing games/fantasy
17In Alingsås a large number of young people
contribute by writing articles on the library of
the future and they are also being interviewed by
their thoughts on the library room. Working
closely with preschool teachers, art pedagogues,
special pedagogues and pre-school children the
childrens librarians of Alingsås, Kungälv and
Mölndal have developed ideas about a library
could be.
18One library did not stop at drawings or models
19The library of Råslätt in Jönköping was
previously a typical library of the seventies in
need of renovation.
20Stage designer Christina Lundström and scenery
painter Rosel Jonsson worked together with three
scool classes in the 8th grade.
21- Using the pupils models, the stage designer made
a sketch and a model of the entire library. - Essential parts of the pupils wishes and
suggestions were - A café
- A stage
- Nooks for reading and beeing alone
- Meetingpoints for communication
- The Information desk in the middle of the library
- A hut for small children
- Something relating to football (The school has a
special alignment to football)

23Its important that when we ask young people for
their opinion or to help us change the library,
they see that we listen and that their ideas
become reality.
24Pupils have then worked in the library together
with the stage designer, the scenery painter,
craftsmen and pedagogues in order to make the
model real.
25One of the participating pupils are telling among
others Leif Pagrotsky, minister of cultural
affairs and about the mystery room in the
library.
26The mixture of new and second hand turned out to
be both eciting and successful.

32The librarian of the future?
33The library of Vaggeryd, is integrated with an
upper secondary school. The school librarian is
working one day a week with a class in the first
grade on the subject The Library of the future.
This subject is integrated in all other subjects
from physical training to mathmatics. In computer
class they will create a virtual model of the
library of the future and a photo book about what
a library is or could be.
34In Värnamo the childrens librarian is working
with pupils 10 years old. The alignment of the
cooperation is What would a library on Mars look
like? The expectation by using this approach is
to get some ideas about how to use technology in
new ways.
Värnamo kommer biblioteket att
35In the year of 2006 we will be working more on
how to use modern technology to make the library
more fun and attractive to children and
teenagers. We have opened a cooperation with some
students at the master program of interaction
design at Malmö University.
36We also have made some study tours to get
inspiration and new ideas. Some of them we
recommend are
