Warm Up
  • We closed out last week looking at the Bill
    of Rights, or the first 10 amendments of the US
    Constitution. The Bill of Rights define citizens
    rights in relation to the government, however,
    those rights are not absolute.
  • What is meant by that statement?

  • Why is freedom of speech so important?
  • Can you think of any situations in which the
    government should limit the ability of a citizen
    to express his/her opinion?

    offensive or lewd manner

  • Example? Local ordinances may require permits,
    designate areas, and specify times for
    demonstration/speeches
