2An Exploration of Cottown Habitat
- Plan
- Brainstorm to get ideas
- Record ideas
- Go outside to see if predictions are correct
- Record findings
- Further investigation
3Plants need sunlight and water to grow
4We moved some of the dead leaves that were under
the tree.
We found new shoots that are trying to grow here.
5Minibeasts
6What are minibeasts?

Tree
14The wind knocked down this tree
- It was knocked to the ground
- The roots are exposed
- The soil is different colours
- There are stones in the soil
- We cut it up to use as logs.
15The root structure of this tree is interesting.
We noticed the roots are quite short for the size
of the tree.
Roots get water from the ground.
16We investigated some habitats in the school
grounds
This log is home for lots of minibeasts
17What we found out
- Plants need sunlight and water to grow
- Plants and animals are affected by weather
conditions - Some trees have shallow roots and can fall down
if it is too windy - Trees are home for lots of living things
18We found out there are lots of different types of
minibeasts too.
19Future Investigations
- Where would we find the most minibeasts?
- What type of trees grow in our grounds?
- Do flowers grow anywhere at Cottown?
- What birds like to visit Cottown?
