Plymouth Colony Is Created
  • In late December of 1620, one hundred and two
men, women, and children began to establish the
second English permanent settlement in the New
World. They christened their plantation New
Plymouth after their last port of call in
    England.
  • The Mayflower sailed from Plymouth, England, and
in Nov., 1620, sighted the coast of Cape Cod. The
ship anchored in Plymouth harbor, and the
    Pilgrims established a settlement.
  • During the first winter of the colony, about half
of the settlers died from scurvy and exposure.
But they soon became more successful with the
    help of the Native Americans.
