2Aim
- To improve the recognition and timely management
of Sepsis in acute hospitals. - To achieve the Sepsis Six within 1 hour of time
zero. - Work being piloted in the Acute Medical Unit and
Accident and Emergency. - Patients with a MEWS 2 are screened for severe
sepsis.

- Infection Control Nurse to collect and collate
data. - Identified lead nurses for sepsis in the AMU and
AE. - Simplified the Sepsis ICP onto 1 page,
incorporating the SIRS Score and in bright

- TFAD Doctor competition.
- Auditing ICP compliance between the AMU and AE.
19Next Steps
- Sepsis ICP now in blood culture bags.
- Case note reviews on previous cases.
- Identified inappropriate use of the ICP audit
being carried out and ICP edited to include an
exclusion criteria. - Piloting a new Obstetrics Sepsis ICP in the
Maternity Unit. - Spreading the project to other areas within the
hospital to include early recognition of existing
in-patients.
