Rococo The French Taste
  • After the death of Louis XIV, nobles leave
    Versailles and move into fashionable hotels
    (townhouses) in Paris
  • These hotels become centers for entertainment
    and intellectual gatherings called, salons
  • The Rococo can be viewed as a reaction to the
    formality of art prior to this time under Louis
    XIV
  • KNOWN FOR Pastel colors, delicately curving
    forms, dainty figures, and a lighthearted mood
  • Begins in France but spread across Europe
  • It will go out of fashion during Neoclassicism
