• My child is going to the Middle School, what
  should I expect?

Whats up with Middle School?

• During this phase of life your child will be
  experiencing a lot of physical, emotional and
  hormonal changes. For some kids it is a bumpy
  ride, and for some the transition is smooth.
• The middle school concept is designed to help
  your child through this phase of life and pave
  the way to high school and to young adulthood.

Also.

• Here at MCMS we are here to help you and your
  child. The teachers, administrators, staff along
  with you make up your childs educational team.
  Lets join together and help your childs Bullpup
  years be successful.

Academics

• Your child will be assigned to an academic team.
  Our teams consists of four academic teachers.
• The academic classes are math, social studies,
  science and language arts.
• If your child is an Enrichment student, he will
  receive language arts and/or math from our
  Enrichment teachers.

Reading across the grades..

• Each child is tested and assigned to a reading
  group based on his or her reading level. There
  is sustained reading throughout the building
  after homeroom every day.
• Your childs reading group may change as his or
  her reading skills improve.

Connection Classes are fun!!

• Connection classes are a favorite with our
  students.
• Students are assigned to two connection classes
  each nine weeks.
• Band and Chorus are year long courses, and are
  considered one of the connection classes each 9
  weeks.
• PE is a semester long course.

Dress Code

• The county prescribed dress code is fully
  described in your childs Agenda
• Your childs body is growing and changing, please
  keep this in mind when choosing school attire for
  your middle schooler.

Immunizations

• Your middle school student must have had his
  second MMR and proof of vericella before he can
  be admitted to middle school.
• Check with our school nurse or Health Dept. for
  more information

Counseling Services

• The school counselor is an important person to
  know.
• The counselors work with students individually in
  class and in group.
• MCMS has two counselors to serve our students.
• The counselors are also available to consult with
  parents.

Counselors are

• Guided by professional codes of ethics, and by
  state law.
• Dont hesitate to contact the counselors and
  encourage your child to get to know his or her
  counselor.

School Agenda!!

• Your child will receive his own personal School
  Agenda for daily assignments and communication.
  The first one is provided free by our PTO. Lost
  agendas are replaceable for a fee.
• The agenda has important dates, general
  information, the Morgan County Dress Code, Code
  of Conduct and Range of Consequences.
