Initiative

• The administration requested that the English
  department do a project with Partnership 2000
  (the sister community being Milwaukee, Wisconsin)
  
• The English coordinator agreed and met with the
  English teacher from Milwaukee who was visiting
  in Israel
• They began planning a way for the kids to talk
  and meet online and work together.

Rationale

• Make Israeli children aware of their rights and
  at the same time the lack of other childrens
  rights.
• Introduce the Israeli children to Janusz Korczak
  as one of the first advocates of childrens
  rights
• Teach my students to work cooperatively either
  with American students or with each other to
  learn about childrens rights
• Fulfill the requirement of a research project for
  the English Bagrut

Time Frame

• The planning took place over the summer months
  while project itself took place over a period of
  6 months culminating in a Video Conference.
• During the first semester the students read both
  articles about childrens rights and worked on
  reading passages about Janusz Korczak
• The students listened to a lecture given by an
  expert on Korczak.
• The students engaged in group work to decide on
  what rights they had and what all children should
  have. Then they discussed these and learned about
  the Convention of Childrens Rights.

Timeframe continued

• The students chose topics they wished to work on
  and some of them wrote to the children in America
  and collaborated with them.
• The students spent a month in the computer room,
  searching for information, and writing up the
  work.
• The students met the American students at a video
  conference sponsored by and paid for by
  Partnership 2000

Students Feedback

• During the project , I discovered that If I
  want to write something with content but also
  
  sensitive, as it should be , and with depth, I
  should work harder and find a balance between
  emotion and facts. .. In the project I
  criticize the society for being so ignorant and
  letting this happen and not only happen but
  continue. I enjoyed working on this project

• I hope you now understand that we all have the
  power to decide the destiny of our children .

• In conclusion , I think the project about
  childrens rights was great and a meaningful
  experience, which taught me a lot and gave
  another perspective about life and what I have.
  Although the issue of the project was very hard,
  I really enjoyed the process of the work.
  Finally I believe that a project such as this one
  is necessary and important for every student to

A world of children

• We need to expand our students world and open
  their eyes to our world.. Good and BAD !!
