Title: How to do TAKS
1How to do TAKS
2Step 1 Understand what is being tested.
3TAKS Tests Five Objectives
- 17 Questions
- 8 Questions
- 8 Questions
- 11 Questions
- 11 Questions
- Total 55 Questions
- Understand the nature of science.
- Understand the organization of living systems.
- Understand the interdependence of organisms and
the environment. - Understand the structure and properties of
matter. - Understand motion, forces, and energy.
4Understand what the 5 objectives mean.
- To understand the nature of science.
- To understand the
- organization of living
- systems.
2. Body Biology
3. To understand the interdependence of
organisms and the environment.
3. Environmental Biology
4. Chemistry
4. To understand the structures and
properties of matter.
5. To understand motion, forces, and
energy.
5. Physics
5If you can recognize a questions objective then
it helps you to answer it!So REALLY LEARN
them.
6Step 2 Understand the timing.
- You can take all day if you want but understand
that you will get tired. - There are 55 questions to answer on the Science
TAKS.
7Step 3 Know how to use the tools you are given.
- Periodic Table
- Formula Chart
- Ruler
8Objective 1 (How to do science)The first and
largest TAKS objective depends less on
memorization of facts and more on your experience
and ability to think.
9TAKS Objective 1Tests your ability to think and
work like a scientist.Questions for this
objective test your ability to
- apply critical thinking skills.
- evaluate and interpret data in the form of
tables, - charts, and graphs.
- manipulate experimental data and solve
- problems based on experiments.
- use the scientific method
- recognize and use common lab equipment.
- stay safe in the lab.
10Objective 2 Understanding the organization of
living systems.(Body Biology)
This objective requires you to memorize details.
11Objective 3 (Environmental Biology) This
objective requires you to be familiar with the
relationship between living things and the world
in which they live - both the living and
non-living worlds. You dont have to memorize
but understanding will lead you to making correct
decisions.
12Objective 4Chemistry
NoteChemistry questions rely on the Periodic
Table. Know how it is organized and what each
piece of information means.
13Objective 5PhysicsThis objective will need to
use the formula chart and math to answer most
questions.
The formula chart gives you commonly used
formulas and facts. It doesnt tell you how to
use them or when to use them - thats up to you!
14Strategy for each Question
- Read the question
- Identify which TAKS objective is being tested.
- Identify what you need to answer the question.
- periodic table formula chart
ruler prior knowledge - Scan the answers to see if they can give you
additional information. - Reread the question again and look for additional
information you missed the first time. - Answer the question.
15Using these steps will help you to slow down and
answer the questions after thinking them through.
This will reduce the number of careless errors.
