• Corporate Knowledge
• Allow corporate knowledge to be maintained and
  easily accessed throughout the company using
  hypermedia and Web technologies
• Employee manuals, benefits documents, company
  policies, business standards, newsfeeds, and even
  training, can be accessed
• Because each business unit can update the online
  copy of a document, the most recent version is
  always available to employees using the intranet

• Developing a feature-rich intranet with these
  capabilities used to be a major project
• Time consuming
• Requires considerable technical expertise
• Expensive
• A few years ago Microsoft introduced some
  software to make this process much more easy and
  affordable

• "SharePoint" may refer to one of two products
• Windows SharePoint Services (WSS)
• Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS)
• WSS is a powerful, free add-on that comes with
  Windows Server 2003 and 2008
• MOSS runs on top of WSS and builds on it by
  adding even more features and functionality to
  it
• Tonight we are going to look at WSS since it is
  something that most organizations already have
  even if they dont know it

• Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) is the basic
  part of Microsoft SharePoint
• It offers collaboration and document management
  functionality by means of web portals, by
  providing a centralized repository for shared
  documents, as well as browser-based management
  and administration of them
• It allows creation of Document libraries, which
  are collections of files that can be shared for
  collaborative editing. SharePoint provides access
  control and revision control for documents in a
  library

• It also includes a collection of web parts, which
  are web widgets that can be embedded into web
  pages to provide a certain functionality
• SharePoint includes web parts such as workspaces
  and dashboards, navigation tools, lists, alerts
  (including e-mail alerts), shared calendar,
  contact lists and discussion boards
• It can be configured to return separate content
  for Intranet, Extranet and Internet locations

• The point of this demonstration is that
  SharePoint is a very fast and inexpensive way for
  any organization to create its own intranet
• Due to its power under the hood you should
  consider working with a SharePoint expert /
  consultant to ensure that you properly organize
  it before you start, as well as to take advantage
  of some of the more advanced features

• Portable Document Files (PDF) are a universal
  standard for sharing documents
• Adobe provides free software to view these
  documents
• The Adobe Acrobat Reader is on most computers,
  and is even pre-installed on new ones

• Large software download if it isnt already
  installed on your PC
• Slow to start up
• Must watch an annoying splash screen whenever
  viewing a document

• Fast launch speed without a splash screen
• It even has features that Reader lacks

All about Microsoft Outlook Stationery how to
use it!

• Microsoft Outlook has two features that allow you
  to customize the look of your email messages
• Use a different font
• Change the color of the page
• Add graphics and logos
• Easily add signatures and contact information
• These work in almost all version of Outlook,
  including Outlook Express

• The first approach is to use the standard
  stationery feature
• Open up Outlook
• Pull down the Tools menu and select Options
• Select the mail format tab
• Set the compose in this message format to HTML
• Click Stationery Picker
• Select one of the available choices
• Click OK

• The first approach has a limitation that you
  cant add graphics and signature text
• Because the graphic you select or change is a
  background image

• The second approach lets you have both a logo or
  picture and signature text
• The trick is to use the signature feature
• Open up Outlook
• Pull down the Tools menu and select Options
• Select the mail format tab
• Set the compose in this message format to HTML
• Click Signatures
• Press the New button and give it a name, then
  press next
• Enter your signature text (name, title, etc)
• Right click and select insert image
• Click Finish

  included with Outlook
• To take it even further, you can download
  thousands of ready-to-use templates from the
  internet
