ANNUAL MEETING
  • Activity The 1st Annual CDIO Meeting (conference
    meetings)
  • Place Kingston, Ontario, Canada
  • Time June 2005 (tentatively, the 6th)
  • The Annual Meeting consists of a two-day
    conference including a workshop, preceded and
    followed by two halfdays of CDIO Council meeting
    and meeting of the North American regional group

ANNUAL MEETING
  • Primary conference goals
  • Information exchange among collaborators and
    others on best practices
  • Outreach to other educational reform efforts,
    potential implementers, industry, government and
    accreditation boards
  • Implementers will be able to implement specific
    aspects of CDIO

  • Further engage students in program
  • Hear from alumni and get feedback
  • Build collegiality and camaraderie

ANNUAL MEETING
  • Abstracts of maximum 400 words due in January
    2005
  • Notification of acceptance by February 2005
  • Parallel conference sessions for Curriculum,
    Teaching Learning, Assessment and Workspaces,
    Faculty development
  • A conference session for accreditors,
    ABET/CEAB/HSV/QAA, professional societies and/or
    a session for industry and government

ANNUAL MEETING
  • Use of active learning, that is, the conference
    should preferably be conducted in a way that
    mirrors CDIO teaching methods
  • A conference fee for attendees (discounts for
    students and CDIO collaborators)

UK ACTIVITY
  • Representatives from 10 UK and four Irish
    Universities attended QUB CDIO Workshop
  • QUB will follow up with these schools to
    determine interest
  • QUB negotiating with N. Ireland government for
    funding. If sufficient to employ several staff,
    QUB will apply as Regional Center, possibly at
    Pretoria meeting

AFRICA ACTIVITY
  • First Regional Meeting to take place in
    conjunction with Feb. 04 Collaborator Meeting
  • Universities from throughout S. Africa and Africa
    to be invited
  • Brochure in production

NORDIC ACTIVITY
  • First Regional Meeting to take place 10 November
    2004 in Stockholm
  • Will take form of workshop on development of
    engineering programs
  • CDIO and non-CDIO schools, schools in Sweden,
    Denmark, Norway, Finland, etc.

NORTH AMERICA ACTIVITY
  • First Regional Meeting to take place 04-05
    November 2004 at MIT
  • In addition to current N. American collaborators
    (Queens, USNA, MIT) other US, Canadian schools,
    (plus possibly some interested S. American
    schools) will be invited
  • Day 1 is CDIO Workshop
  • Day 2 is meeting day topics tentatively include
    plenary discussion of Regional purpose,
    direction, activity theme discussions and work
    sessions

OTHER ACTIVITY
  • Singapore in early stages of exploring regional
    CDIO workshop
  • New Zealand Des will give a paper at the
    Association for Engineering Education in
    Southeast and East Asia and the Pacific (AEESEAP)
    Conference and gauge interest in a CDIO workshop
