reduce class size, hire teachers and counselors
and expand professional development opportunities - List of schools to be announced on May 2nd
- Approval by California Board of Education
expected on May 9th - Funding available for the new school year

principals packets - 35,000 available for individual schools

- Teresita Saracho de Palma and Farmdale Elementary
for receiving the Early Mental Health Initiative
Grant and their effective implementation of this
grant. On February 27th, staff, students and
guests visited their Amigos Playroom for
refreshments and to donate toys for the program.

- Vince Carbino and the students from the Santee
Education Complex. The school has been chosen by
the LAPD to be in the first pilot program of its
type in the city and possibly national history to
have students serve on the police commission
advisory panels. Five students have been
selected to serve on the LA Police Commission
Community Policing Advisory Panel.

- Jose Cantu and the staff at Hammel El for hosting
their Family Literacy Night on March 20th.
Through a variety of workshops parents learned
how to help their child at home to develop
language arts skills. It was a fun educational
evening for all parents, students and staff.

- Maricela Sanchez-Robles and the staff at
Humphreys Elementary for hosting their Hooked on
Books Literacy Night to motivate family
participation in reading and writing. Families
participated in read-alouds, story telling, book
making, and literature motivated cooking. Family
and student authored books and stories were
showcased schoolwide.

- Maricela Sanchez-Robles from Humphreys Elementary
School for motivating students to read. At
Humphreys students met the challenge of reading
20,000 minutes. Captain Sanchez kept her promise
and walked the plank.
