  • The Oregon Trail started in Independence,
    Missouri and ended somewhere in Oregon.

  • The Oregon Trail took six months to complete.
  • The pioneers headed west to start a new life.
  • Many people died on the trail of diseases.

Independence Missouri
  • Independence was one of the jumping off points of
    the Oregon Trail.
  • This is were the pioneers bought supplies and
    joined a wagon train.

Chimney Rock
  • Chimney Rock was a big landmark on the Oregon
    Trail.
  • Chimney Rock stands 325 feet high above the plain
    today but during the migration it was a bit
    higher.

The Rocky Mountains
  • The Rocky Mountains was the hardest part of the
    trail.
  • Many people fell of the wagons and broke bones or
    even died.
  • Pioneers had to cross the Rockies before winter
    came.

The Blue Mountains
  • The Blue Mountains were a symbol to the pioneers
    that they were in the Oregon territory and they
    were closer to their goal.

Hardships On the Oregon Trail
  • There were many hardships on the Oregon Trail
    like diseases, weather, accidents, and river
    crossings.
  • Many people died on the Oregon Trail because of
    diseases.
  • The weather was a big factor on the Oregon Trail
    as well many people were struck by lighting and
    froze to death in the mountains.

The Columbia River/Barlow Road
  • The Columbia river was where the pioneers had to
    build a raft and travel down the undammed,
    reckless Columbia river or travel up Mt. Hood
    through the Barlow Road.

The pioneers food
  • The pioneers ate vegetables, bacon, fruit, meal,
    beans, and cheese.
  • The pioneers hunted deer, elk, rabbit, squirrel,
    and buffalo.

Indian Tribes
  • There were many Indian tribes on the Oregon
    Trail. Some were friendly and some were
    unfriendly.
  • Some of the tribes were the Lakota Sioux,
    Shoshone, and Pawnee.

Dangerous Indians
  • Many Indians were very dangerous.
  • One of the most dangerous Indians were the Pawnee

Willamette Valley
  • Willamette Valley was also called Oregon City,
    this is where some pioneers finished the trail.
  • This is where the pioneers would claim some land
    and start a new life.
  • They hoped that life in Oregon would be better
    than back east.
