The Oregon Trail
  • The Oregon Trail was a 2000 mile long trail that
    stretched from Independence, Missouri to
    Willamette Valley Oregon.
  • Many people packed there belongings and started
    off on the Oregon Trail.

Independence Missouri
  • Independence Missouri was the start of the Oregon
    Trail.
  • They bought all their supplies in their home town
    because the supplies were so expensive in
    Independence.

Jumping Off Point
  • The Jumping Off point was Independence, Missouri.
  • This was the place where the pioneers met to,
    join there wagon train.
  • They also gathered here to start their journey
    west.

Transportation
  • The pioneers drove farm and Conestoga wagons as
    their transportation to Oregon.
  • The oxen pulled the wagons.

  • Another form of transportation was walking and
    riding on horses.
  • Sometimes the pioneers would walk alongside the
    wagon for safety and when the wagon was too full.

Food
  • The pioneers ate meal, beans, rice, cheese,
    crackers, bacon, ham, dried beef, dried fruits
    and vegetables.
  • They hunted, buffalo, deer, rabbits, birds, and
    squirrels.

Rocky Mountains
  • They had to cross the Rocky Mountains along the
    Oregon Trail.
  • They had to be very careful while crossing any
    mountain because they could fall off and die.

Diseases/Sicknesses
  • Some diseases on the Oregon Trail were cholera,
    measles, typhoid fever, and malaria.
  • Some sicknesses were the flu, exhaustion, poison
    from snake bites, and diarrhea.

Indian Tribes
  • Two major Indian tribes were Cheyenne Pawnee
  • There were nice tribes and some that treated them
    bad.
  • Pioneers did trading with Indians on the trail.
  • They attacked the travelers but usually didnt
    kill them.

    trail.
  • The pioneers left Willamette Valley and found
    land to build a house on and to start a new life.

  • We have finally got to Willamette Valley Oregon.
  • The trip was long and hard. times, but we made
    it!
  • I think it will be worth it though.
