Strep throat is a throat infection caused by a bacteria called group A streptococcus. This kind of bacterial infection leads to a sore, irritated and inflamed throat. It’s fairly common and can be found in children and adults of all ages. Strep throat usually goes away in under a week on its own, although some people prefer taking antibiotics or medication to help their symptoms.
