Title: A Fragrance of Christ

1
A Fragrance of Christ
  • An aroma to those being saved and to save who are
    perishing. 2 Cor. 215-16

2
Introduction
  • The life of Christianity always displays a
    fragrance to others.
  • The Christian himself may not perceive it or he
might simply be accustomed to it.
  • The importance of this fragrance, however, is for
    the others around him.
  • To varying degrees the life of a Christian emits
the fragrance of life or death to those around
    him.

3
Introduction
  • So, what is this fragrance?
  • It is the fragrance of Christ in your life.
  • The more your life is conformed into His image,
    the stronger the fragrance.
  • The stronger the fragrance of Christ in your
life, the stronger peoples reactions are to you.

4
The Fragrance of Christ in Your Life
  • What the fragrance of Christ represents. Eph.
    52
  • A life conformed in the likeness of God.
  • A life offered up in service to God.
  • It represents all that makes up life and holiness.

5
The Fragrance of Christ in Your Life
  • Christs fragrance manifests in our lives as we
    conform it into His image.
  • The fragrance starts by putting on Christ (in the
likeness of his death, burial, and resurrection.
    Gal. 327
  • Our lives have been sacrificed as an offering to
God just as Christ was on behalf of our sins.
    Rom. 63-6
  • The result is that our lives continue to conform
to the image of Christ.who is the express image
    of God. Heb. 13
  • In this way, our lives are a fragrance of Christ.

6
The Fragrance of Christ in Your Life
  • The fragrance is not distinct unless the gospel
of Christ is shared. 2 Cor. 217
  • People might see a morally upright person in your
life but the fragrance at this point is not
yet distinct from that of other morally upright
    individuals.
  • You see, while Christians are perfected in
Christ, they are still human beings subject to
    the pitfalls of temptation.
  • An observer may see no distinction between a
believer who is morally upright from a
non-believer who is also morally upright.
  • The distinction is when the believer lets the
world know that he lives for God and the Christ
    who died for him.

7
The Fragrance of Christ in Your Life
  • It is a fragrance to God.
  • Offerings given in complete obedience (Matt.
2237) that is by practice and the heart to
the will of God has always been accepted by God.
  • It is this fragrance that pleases God that brings
about a reaction by those in the world regarding
    your life.
  • NOTE If your life is simply a keeping from bad
things there is in essence no fragrance of
    Christ at all.

8
The ReactionTo Your Fragrance
  • Your fragrance to some will be an aroma of death.
  • When your life closely follows that of Christs
it is a moral, political, and emotional threat to
those whose minds are set on the ideals of this
    world.
  • This is because these people love darkness more
than/rather than the light. Jn. 319
  • Rather than be exposed by the light they despise
    it.

9
The ReactionTo Your Fragrance
  • That same fragrance will be an aroma of life to
    others.
  • Imagine your very life of service to God that is
despised by many is the same life that brings
glory to God and salvation to others. Matt. 514
  • There are those living in darkness who - when
seeing your life and speech about Christ long
for the light, strongly coveting the life in
    Christ you emit.

10
Conclusion
  • Does your life emit the fragrance of Christ?
  • Be encouraged that while it may be an aroma of
death to many, it also is life to those who seek
    the salvation of God.
