  affectionately known as the only living father of
  Confederation

• When Newfoundland joined Canada it was Britain's
  oldest colony but then became Canada's newest
  province.
• Newfoundland entered Canadian Confederation in
  1949 as the tenth Province, 450 years after being
  "discovered" by John Cabot.
