IN MY DISCUSSION I WILL BE USING THIS FORMAT TO
SHOW FILES SOMETIMES. DONT GET TOO CONCERNED.
IT WONT BE ON THE TEST. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED
IN LOOKING AT THE DATA DICTIONARIES OF OTHER
FILES USE FILEMANAGERS DATA DICTIONARY OPTIONS.

Each modality that wishes to use Modality
worklist must provide information to Vista
Imaging to be placed in the Worklist.dic file so
that Vista Imaging can provide that feature for
their use. The AE_Title and other information is
placed in this file for each Modality.

The image gateway sets up listeners according to
data in instrument.dic. The modalities send
images to the Image Gateways IP and to the ports
set in their parameters that match the listener
ports. The listeners then deposit the
images in the Image_In folder. INSTRUMENT.DIC

Step 3. The Image Gateway processes the image.
RADIOLOGY

MODALITY WORKLIST

14.
16

The process job tries to match data found in
fields in the Dicom header with entries in
Modality.dic. If this is not accomplished the
image is entered as an image from an undefined
modality. If so the Imagine coordinator would
need to determine the problem and correct it or
add a new entry into the Modality.dic file.
In this case they match up.

1.
  • The Image gateway pulls the information from the
Image_In folder and places it in MAGDINPT
  • If the process job is able to match the Patient
name, SSN and Accession number to a patient and
study on Vista it continues with processing. It
then converts the images if needed.
Conversion is controlled by the 4th piece of the
Modality.dic entry. If a .BIG file is desired a
designation can be made there. If so an FBIG
node is added to file 2005 in Vista.

  • Using its M-to-M connection it looks to file
2006.1 for the current write location which
indicates the logical drive to place the data on
and sends the data to the proper RAID drive
  • Again, using its M-to-M connection, it then puts
the data in file 2005 on Vista placing the entry
location from the RAID in pieces 3 and 4 and
takes care of multiple images and sibling images
  • Vista then adds an entry in the BP Jukebox queue
to get the data moved to the Jukebox
  • Once processed the entry comes out of MAGDINPT

  • If the system is unable to convert the image,
that is if it cannot match the image to a
patient, or a study on Vista via the M-to-M
    connection,
  • An entry gets made in the Dicom Failed Images
file 2006.575 via the M-to-M connection.
  • At that point Radiology needs to fix the problem.
  • Once fixed the Process job will check for fixed
images and finish processing the image once found
in the same manner as before...

  • The Capture Client takes care of importing
    images.
  • It looks to file 2006.1 for the current write
location and sends the data to the proper RAID
    drive
  • It then puts the data in file 2005 on Vista
placing the entry location from the RAID in
pieces 3 and 4 and takes care of multiple images
    and sibling images
  • Vista then adds an entry in the BP Jukebox queue
to get the data moved to the Jukebox. All work
on Vista is done Using the BPs RPC connection.

The Verifier is started on the BP. It runs
through an IEN range of images that you provide.
It has access to the Image file, 2005, on Vista
so it can use the cross references there to do a
quick lookup of the Image in question in the
Image database.

With the image IEN number it can then pull up the
image data and look to pieces 3, 4 and 5 to see
where file 2005 says the image is stored.
Remember these are pointers to the Network
Location file. It also gets the file reference
number of the image.

The BP takes the numbers given to it from file
2005 and goes to Network Location to get the
physical reference.

From there the BP can go to the Cluster and check
the RAID to see if the file reference name that
it found in the Image file is actually located on
the RAID and Jukebox shares that were referenced.

determine who the patient is and get the

The BP also has the information it needs to check
up on Imaging entries in 2005 to make sure that
siblings and parents match up. The above
illustrations are not ALL of what the BP Verifier
does, but it shows you how the BP can use its
knowledge of the files to find the information
that it needs to check the structural integrity
of the database and make sure it is in tact when
you run the Verifier.

The next step is for the BP to check the purge
parameters for each type of file. This is the way
that most people see the parameters, from the BP,
purge parameter window. The system looks at this
from the Fileman file. Armed with this data the
BP can decide which images were last accessed
outside of these parameters.

In file 2005 pieces 3 and/or 4 get removed if the
image is purged from RAID. If the image was NOT
on the Jukebox, that is there was nothing in
piece 5 the image is moved to the jukebox, piece
5 is filled in but the image is NOT purged from
RAID this time around.
