in 1890 the Sherman antitrust act band
monopolies and trusts. But it was to weak and so
the Clayton act was made to strengthen the
Sherman antitrust act and some states made laws
to enhance the Sherman antitrust act.

Booker T. Washington ( 1856- 1915)
He wanted to increase the rights of African
Americans through higher education not more
fighting. He was a teacher at a university in
Tuskegee, ala. He was a advisor to the president
to talk about racial problems, this helped the
African Americans . He established a university
near the school he taught in and because of his
efforts he proved, by the way he lived, that
African Americans could improve their lives
through education.

Upton Simclair
He was born September 20, 1878. He wrote many
books but the one he is most famous for the book
The Jungle in 1906. When he wrote the book The
Jungle he shoed no morsels to the people who ran
the slaughter house just for the people who
worked on the cows. After the book was publish
and a lot of people read the book the slaughter
house he wrote about was shut down and MENY laws
were past to prevent diseases from spreading to
other people. Thats what he did to help us.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton.(Women's rights movement)
Elizabeth cady Stanton led the womens rights
movement.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Of Johnstown, N.Y.,
November. 12th 1815.
She was active in the antislavery and temperance
movements but gave much of her time to womens
issues, marrying abolitionist Henry B. Stanton
in 1840 ,she persisted on the omission of obey
from marriage vows.

Carrie Nation traveled to many places. She didnt
just attack people with her hatchet, she also
gave speeches.
Carrie Nation was against alcohol. She tried to
get rid of it but no one was listening so she
started destroying stocks of liquor and wrecking
furniture with hatchet
Carrie Nation was completely against alcohol
because her husband was an alcoholic and made her
life awful.

George Washington Carver
  • George Washing ton Carver was born as a slave
    1861 and he died January 1943.
  • George wanted to leave to acquire an education.
    George tried to apply to Kansas college but they
    didnt except him. He eventually went to college.
    George tried to help working farmers. He tried
    to make cultivating a lot easier for famers.
    George found out that peanuts were an excellent
    product for the south. George made 300 different
    things out of peanut butter. He made a better
    life for the slaves of the south.

Lewis Hines is was good photographer. He is
so important because he help in the 1911
Lewis got hired by the National child labor
committee. And he used his picture
documentation of child labor abuses to bring
about corrective legislation

The Square Deal was made in 1904 by Theodore
Roosevelt when he ran for president
The main target of the square deal was the
railroads because the farmers could not afford to
ship their crops across the country
It was a promise that all Americans would have
the same opportunity to succeed

president.

    also organized the International Council of Women
    in 1888. Also the International Woman Suffrage
    Alliance in 1904.
  • At 17 years old Susan B. Anthony went complaining
    for woman teachers so they could have equal pay.

Thomas NastStops Corruption in Cities
  • Thomas Nast attended classes at New York's
    National Academy of Design. When he was 15, Nast
    got a job as an artist on Frank Leslie's
    Illustrated Newspaper. In 1859 he began
    contributing cartoons to Harper's Weekly. He also
    accepted an offer from the New York Illustrated
    News and later went to Europe to draw pictures of
    news events there.
  • Thomas Nast drew pictures of soldiers in training
    camps. Also One of his most noted cartoons is
